Reviewed By Kevin CIt is easy enough to deliver a cheerful experience in Spiekeroog, an island with dazzling beaches, a large handful of good restaurants and bakeries, and a certain "je ne sais quoi." What is far more difficult, at North Sea resorts, is to create a lodging experience in which the hotel is not only a convenience but also an integral part of an uplifting vacation adventure. The Spiekerooger Leidenschaft accomplishes just that: It delivers service and atmosphere of such high quality that it successfully identifies itself as part and parcel of an inevitably wonderful Spiekeroog holiday. Remembering that cunning realtors always intone the old mantra, "location, location, location," it should be noted that no hotel enjoys a better position than does the Leidenschaft. Halfway between the harbor and the beach, around-the-corner from the town center and all its amenities (including Spiekeroog's legendary bakery), and two short blocks from the island information center. the hotel raises convenience into an art form. Next on the list of virtues is the prominence of this hotel. In tip-top condition and rising above the town like the headquarters of some great Dutch or Hanseatic shipping conglomerate, the Spiekerooger Leidenschaft conveys a sense of both solidity and tasteful grandeur, all in a (nevertheless) fun insular package. To position and prominence we can add personality. The enthusiastic, youthful couple who manage the hotel effervesce with sociability. Splendid conversationalists and naturally graceful, the host and hostess enjoy guests--even the most difficult ones!--and to shed their friendly radiance over the entire establishment, especially the breakfast room. Finally, there is the outright pleasure that the Leidenschaft yields. Spacious rooms--very different from the overcrowded, sometimes coarsely furnished accommodations one finds elsewhere on an island known for more than a bit of price-gouging--allow guests to continue their enjoyment of the expansive North Sea sands and skies even while relaxing in their chambers. Amenities such as bathrooms and electrical supply systems are up-to-date, as is the WiFi system. Beds are large and comfortable and modern cabinetry allows for easy stowing of both clothing and vacation supplies (for example, beach toys). The only negative associated with this splendid hotel is its inability to offer any meals other than breakfast owing to what is reported to be an acute labor shortage. However, that breakfast is so spectacular--so filled with delicacies ranging from the traditional German bread, cheese, and cold-cuts to special chef-curated salads, organic cereals and fruits, and specialty teas--that it alone is probably sufficient for both nourishment and gustatory delight. The Spiekerooger Leidenschaft is far and away the best hostel that I and my wife have visited on any of the German North Sea islands. It is a heartily enjoyable, can't-miss experience at any time of the year.

Reviewed By Stephan STolles Fewos mit familienfreundlicher Ausstattung. DIe Wohungen bieten allen Komfort den man für ein paar entspannte Tage auf Spiekeroog braucht. Ein besonderes Extra zur Entlastung der "strapazierten" ;-) Eltern ist das tolle Spielzimmer im Haus, das von den Kids gerne und ausgiebig in Anspruch genommen wird.

Alles braucht Pflege und Eigentum verpflichet...
Reviewed By silviotischmeyerDie erste Überraschung erreichte uns als nach der Buchung vor ein paar Wochen das Buchungsunternehmen mitteilte, dass der Vorbesitzer gewechselt hätte und wir neu entscheiden könnten, ob die Buchung bestehen bliebe. Da Spiekeroog wie viele der Nordseeinseln oft überbucht ist, hatten wir keine große Wahl. Die Ferienwohnung war mit allem notwendigen ausgestattet aber das Bad und insbesondere die Matratzen der Betten, ließen mehr als zu wünschen übrig, wenn man den Mietpreis entgegenhält. Hier wäre dringender Renovierungsbedarf angemeldet oder ein Anheben des Niveaus. Den Gast einfach nur abzukassieren, weil das die Nachfrage zulässt, wird kein "Auf Wiedersehen" über die Lippen bringen. Ansonsten ist die Ferienwohnung nahe des Ortskerns gelegen 850 m vom Strand entfernt und diverse Restaurants und der Inselbäcker sind fussläufig, in wenigen Minuten erreichbar.
