We stayed here for one night as a couple in September 2021 after hiking Quilotoa Lake. Although the owner and staff members do not speak English, and we only spoke very limited, poor Spanish, they showed us great hospitality, and were pleasant and accommodating. In terms of price, Runa Wasi is one of the more affordable ones in the area. We paid approximately $40 USD for a room with a double bed and ensuite bathroom. Even as a Canadian, I have to say, it does get VERY cold at night. There is an old fashioned fireplace in the room, that the owner and staff members came and helped start for us, when we needed it. I believe there were at least 4-5 blankets/comforters for the bed, also as another means to keep warm. The shower was unfortunately cold. The hot water only stayed on for about a minute or two before it was cold again. I was a bit disappointed by this as I was looking forward to a hot shower at the end of our hike. Dinner and breakfast is included in the price. The meals were good, and it was your standard Ecuadorian food (meat, rice, salad for dinner / eggs, bread, fresh fruit, fruit juice and coffee for breakfast). However, the portions were quite small. WiFi is fast and reliable in all parts of the lodge. Overall, Runa Wasi is a charming lodge for great value. I would recommend this lodge if you are looking for budget-friendly options.

First off the place is freezing cold. They have wood stoves, but it too him at least half an hour to start the fire in our home. We also asked twice if he could help the fire in the common area because it was going out and he never did. My friend waited over an hour for fries. They also had no dry towels so I had to use my shirt. The bathroom had no toilet paper. My pizza took a long time. Also dinner is not included and there’s several other hostels in town for the same price that include dinner.

Unfortunately this time I have to write a bad review, having never previously done so preferring to speak directly if something needed improvement however this message needs to be spread far and wide so others don't have their holiday curtailed in the way we have. We decided to stay at Princess Toa in order to support the local community. We had half board there so were gone from our room for both dinner and breakfast. We were on a high from such a great experience trekking in the area and treated their place as we did other wonderful accommodation in the area, leaving our valuables locked in the room with all windows latched. Big mistake. We were the only ones staying there. Issues with hot water meant we had to go over to the restaurant to get help otherwise it was deadly quiet. During breakfast (called for earlier than planned the previous night) one of the staff (we only ever met two men) accessed our room and stole our money. It was a considerable amount as we knew cash was the only way to go in the country especially the places we like to go. I thought that the staff would have received training as a community organisation. We know it was an inside job. Our money was there when we arrived, stayed in the room and wasn't there when we departed. We have been to the police in Lacacunga to file a report. Disappointing in so many ways as we had been loving our time in Ecuador.

Very rude staff, didn't show any interest in customer service at all. Tried to sel the room for 25$ which we negotiated down to 15$. So do not pay more than 15$! Didn't have curtains (at street level!!), no water, no towels, no toilet papers. After asking many times for all the missing stuff, we eventually got it after a few hours. The food was average and really not a lot. No deserts as all other places on our 5day hike served. To round it up, they gave us wrong bus times to Latacunga in order to sell us their taxi service. They didn't give me my 5$ change back. Really, really bad place. It's a big rip off!
