A gorgeous little gem

Reviewed By Nozza68

This turned out to be quite the little gem. Fabulous location, stunning views, lovely pools to soothe aching feet, lovely staff and gorgeous restaurant at Eagles Nest. We did both the long hikes - one around Vingerklip and the other around the neighbouring hill. The bedroom was a little dated but very clean and we had a lovely patio with its own little friendly cheeky furry creature! The bed itself was so comfortable.

Twyfelfontein County Lodge- desert haven

Wildwood Motorcycle Tours have been doing regular guided tours in Kaokoland & Damaraland for the past decade and for some reason Twyfelfontein, even though we pass close by never fitted into our route as an overnight stop. I rejigged our route and visited last week. And what a revelation. Without doubt our best lodge of our 11 day tour. First off the rooms are stunning, good aircon , great views and the best showers. The food is without doubt the best we’ve had in the Namibia and costs less half of some rival lodges. And for me the standout was the staff attitude and morale. Without exception everyone was well trained, super friendly and efficient. I went back to restaurant after breakfast when all the diners had left and found the entire food stall singing while cleaning up. Not the staged choir stuff trying to leach a tip from punters, but spontaneous happy song from the back of the scullery to the waitress clearing tables all in joyful song. It put a spring in my step for the entire day. Chatting to my clients after the all rated Twyfelfontein as the best stop of the tour. We’re heading back to the region with our biggest tour of the year in October and Twyfelfontein County Lodge is definitely on the itinerary.

Beautiful location, but we were sad hungry vegans

Reviewed By annaoverseas

There are positives and negatives to this lodge. Positives first: fantastic location - it’s beautiful. Rooms were comfy and nicely decorated. Staff is beyond wonderful. Memory is a great manager - present and authentic. Serving staff are friendly. Guides are outstanding. Unfortunately our negatives were numerous as well though. We are vegan and informed the booking agent well in advance. Unfortunately she didn’t pass the message on and when we arrived, we caught the kitchen staff off guard. To be blunt, for days we ate essentially bread, fruit salad and 2 really unappetizing plates of pasta with a ketchup-y canned sauce. This was in comparison to everyone’s else’s food which they raves about. This was the fault of booking, and a kitchen staff that needs more training on alternative diets. Other issues were small comparatively - really expensive laundry (truly the most outrageous prices ever) and a lack of plug in for our camper fridge. In conclusion it wasn’t a great experience because it was expensive and we were not proper fed, despite discussing with reservations and kitchen staff. In hindsight, we should have camped at Houda and only come up for a drink :)

Fantastic place, amazing people

Palmwag is one of those places that you only find once in a very long time. The place is neat, the accommodation is outstanding, but the people make it a place you will never forget. We arrived at Palmwag without a reservation late in the evening after we experienced problems with our camping trailer. From the moment we entered reception, we were treated with respect and friendliness. The manager, Israel Thele, stepped in to make a special arrangement for us for the night. The following day the co-manager, Dez Coetzee, followed up on this fantastic service. Long story short: we not only enjoyed the friendly atmosphere and excellent amenities, but management and personnel walked the extra mile to get our trailer fixed. They ordered parts on our behalf and facilitated people to fix the technical problem. Palmwag is indeed a fantastic place with amazing personnel!

Really lovely camp

Such a lovely camp. Beautiful tents, lovely, decor, wonderful staff and management and delicious food. We really recommend this place if you’d like to visit Twyfelfontein and be able to walk around in the surrounding hills. All the tents are private from each other which we really appreciated.

Wilderness Safaris Damaraland Camp

Dramatic vistas, open spaces, unique desert wildlife Damaraland Camp is situated in the Torra Conservancy – an inspirational community partnership – with sensational views of the surrounding desert plains, ancient valleys and distant peaks of the Brandberg Mountains. New technology blends with ancient construction methods to create innovative, eco-friendly luxury in the desert, with the camp’s 10 elevated adobe-styled, thatched units (including a family unit). A spacious, thatched living area is complete with a fireplace, bar, and swimming pool. An open campfire and outdoor 'boma' can be enjoyed during calm evenings. Large game is not concentrated year-round here, with the natural cycle of rainfall dictating the seasonal movement of wildlife along the Huab River, which can be explored from camp.

Went back here for the second time and plan to go again. It is so peaceful, the guides are wonderful (know their stuff, very flexible), and the staff is beyond perfection. Our guide (Immanuel), the managers (Helen, Llewyn), cook (Josephine), and wait staff (Emmy, Donovan) plus so many others were ready to provide top-notch service at all times. Every staff member was very gracious in helping my husband (mobility issues) get around. The food was exceptional as were the drinks. Don't miss the evening meal in a "special place" or the loo with the view or one or more sundowner. Can't wait to go back!

In the foothills of the Grootberg massif, in stunning scenery set amidst the ancient Etendeka lava flows of northern Damaraland, you will find Etendeka Mountain Camp. Here the ancient basalt has been slowly eroded over millennia, leaving scattered boulders lying upon dramatic flat-topped mountains.

We had an incredible time at Etendeka. A very special place. The staff were amazing from the owner to the guides and hospitality staff - so friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the area, nature and wildlife. The food was delicious and just what was needed before and after some great activities which included nature walks and drives. A unique and special place and we cannot wait to return. Thank you so much to a very special team at Etendeka.
