A True Experience. Although I travel quite a bit for work and I have seen a big part of our beautiful world, I have to say that Blesfontein took my breath away. It reminded me of a country like non other. Nestled in a valley of the most majestic mountains in Tankwa Karoo, lies this little gem! A place full of peace. A place where you can sit back and truly forget all about the madness of city life. If you are thinking of taking that long overdue road trip, make sure to add Blesfontein into your plans. You will not regret it...... In the town of Sutherland, as you pass towards Blesfontein. You will find the Sutherland Planetarium where you can view the most amazing 3D space show. It opens up your eyes to the beauty in and around the world. So, before you drive to Blesfontein make sure to hop on in to the Planetarium first, then stop over to the Total garage for a fill up as the road up the mountain is a steep and long one. Make sure to get there before sunset, it is the most amazing picture up that mountain!

One km outside Sutherland along the N 1 next to the tarred road we offer stargazing with up to six G P S telescopes. A short lecture indoors on a 3 metre big screen is given to explain the current constellations and planets before going outside to do the proper viewing through a telescope. We make use of a powerful laser to point out the objects and teach you how to find South with the aid of the Southern Cross and Megallin Clouds. The two hour max tour is very educational and worth while.

We decided to take a drive to Sutherland on the spur of the moment and was delighted that Nico could fit us in for a fantastic evening of stargazing. We experienced Nico’s warm hospitality, thorough knowledge of our galaxy and beyond plus loads of patience with our very inquisitive 5 yr old. All in all, a great experience and one that I would highly recommend.

A must do for everyone! A wonderful evening spent amongst the stars. The views were spectacular and the tour guides very knowledgeable. The museum could use a bit of love and some attention on the displays. The visit to SALT was truly spectacular and we were treated to a great display of the inner workings of the telescope. Don’t ever miss out on an opportunity to visit.

This great Church is built in the Center of Sutherland. The church is a rich in local history. Well worth a visit.
