Mansfield Zoo

Reviewed By ali-belli

We spent a lovely afternoon at the Mansfield Zoo although it is more of a farm than a zoo. The lions were a highlight. The peacocks and monkeys near the picnic area were very entertaining for our little girl. Feeding the deer and the kangaroos was great fun and we loved the ducks that followed us around for treats. A bit more information on each of the animal exhibits would have been good and some areas looked as if they needed a bit of TLC but overall we had a lovely time.

Great Victorian Rail Trail

Reviewed By Mei Y - Nullagine, Australia

Fresh after being fired up after completing the 72km scenic Great Southern Rail Trail at South Gippsland Highway, 150km South East from Melbourne, and the 44km Warburton Rail Trail on the East side of Melbourne, I wanted to cycle on more rail trails! The 134km long Great Victorian Rail Trail (GVRT) fit the bill perfectly as it is only 90 km North of Melbourne! The GVRT is the longest continuous rail trail in Australia!! I have decided not to be intimidated by the 134km long ride by breaking the whole journey into little doable chunks! My first 19km (38km return) from Tallarook was achieved on Wednesday 12th July. The road surface was good, thanks to Parks Victoria and lots of volunteers to maintain them! Some parts are scenic! We came across two toilet stops and two picnic shades along the way. Hot food is available from Comfort Inn at Trawool, 15km from Tallarook. We saw some other commercial stores, but they seem to be open only during weekends!
My only worry from Tallarook was the open gate that provide no barrier to the cows! I past quickly worrying the cows might charge.
We hope to complete the next two rights with a night at Yea, hoping to ride through the famous 1300m long Cheviot Tunnel (longest rail tunnel built in 1886).
The road surface is so good that it would suit most bikes, not so comfortable for the racing bikes though!
Hope it is helpful.

Kudos to this visitor information center and especially to Colleen who was so very friendly and gave out great advice several times for us. (The other lady, not so nice/not so friendly) Colleen directed us to the wetlands area and rail to trail hike as well as other activities in the area. A must stop for anyone looking for solid information. They have a small museum display as well.

Made in Mansfield

Reviewed By nkk18 - Ann Arbor, Michigan

Founded in 1993, Made in Mansfield is a place for artists in the Mansfield greater area to exhibit and sell their craft. This is a non-profit store with reasonable prices where you can find art for your home or gifts. The contents change based on artist contribution but when I visited I found a wide variety of craft including paintings, ceramics, jewelry, woodwork, bags, scarves, and more. If you are in the area I recommend a visit to support these artists and see what they have to offer.
