Reviews on Contemporary food in Viareggio, Province of Lucca, Italy. The main city of the northern Tuscan Riviera area of Versilia, Viareggio began as a medieval fishing village, then later gained renown for its shipbuilding. In the mid-19th century, the town was developed as a seaside resort, which it’s been ever since. Today, the city is loved for its long beaches, pine woods, great shopping and lively nightlife. It’s also home to the famous carnival of Viareggio, dating back to the late 19th century and one of Europe’s most important carnival events.

We enjoyed several chilled out evenings enjoying the sunset with lovely cocktails and Italian craft beer. It's a lovely bagno but we went just for evening drinks initially but the food looked so good we ate at lunchtime a couple of times. The busiati pasta to share was a real treat. Really nice staff and atmosphere.Thank you so much for your appreciation, it is always a pleasure to read that customers enjoyed their time in our place. Hope to see you soon. Thanks again from me, my family and all the staff.Luca Lippi

Food was fresh and great quality but not what we were looking for. Service was ok. Not At all what we expected from reviews. I think Italians have it out for Americans or they r just not very friendly. Pick somewhere else to go.Hi Nicquel, I'm really happy you liked our food, its quality and freshness, the cordiality of our service, even if you were looking for something else.I beg your pardon, but we are a seafood restaurant and we try to do the best cooking with these products: that's our purpose and first aim.Thank you also for your opinion on the italians, but as you could easily understand, I definitively don't agree with you.Italy has grown, as the largest part of the western world, with the american culture... so, what's the point? If I can give you my opinion: it always depends from the people not from the country where they were borned.Have a nice stay, and enjoy Italy (otherwise there are so many countries to visit ;-)Massimo

'Il Piccolo Principe' gourmet restaurant, Two Star Michelin, offers an exquisitely refined cuisine that is enriched and set off by a well-stocked wine list that can be appreciated either inside the elegant and exclusive restaurant room or outside on the b
A perfect blend of international gourmet food and local specialties. I had the âEssentialâ menu, âterraâ, i.e., meat variant (5 courses, and as such much more than merely âessentialâ), which is preceded by an ensemble of four amuses. I took the wine arrangement (four glasses, mostly Italian, very nice). Everything looked great and the tasted equally good. Endearingly nice and kind service (my partner fell ill and had to leave our table; this was handled in an exemplary way). One suggestion: would it be an idea to differentiate between âmareâ and âterraâ also for the amuses (for those who do not like sea food)?

We realised fairly early on that some of the best restaurants in Viareggio are actually away from the main sea front strip, where service and quality of food has to be spot on.A-Mare is certainly one of these restaurants, a beautiful place, with excellent organic food and fantastic service. We had a wonderful meal here, including a wholemeal Pizza (which was sensational), highly recommended.

Located in Via Mentana adjacent to the Grand Hotel Royal off Viale Carducci (main coast road).Visited twice due to TA reviews and were not disappointed. The 'Eight Sins' burger is a focaccia bun which contains beef, buffalo cheese, tomatoes, crispy bacon, onion and red peppers and is a must have experience. The beef used is from the Chianina variety which is the largest and one of the oldest cattle breeds in the world. The 'Ira' or 'Wrath' burger is a focaccia bun which contains buffalo ricotta cheese, courgette flowers, orange zest and caper powder. The ''Invidia' or 'Envy' burger is a focaccia bun which contains tomatoes, oven roasted vegetables and oregano.Other non-burger options are fish (fried seafood and seafood salad), meat, vegetarian and vegan dishes.Meat and cheese products are free range and all vegetables are organic. The bread is made from 100% stoneground Italian wheat flour mixed with sour dough yeast and left to rest in the fridge for 48 hours. The chef, Marco is very friendly and sources high quality ingredients in his dishes at reasonable prices.Overall, highly recommended and a return visit is guaranteed.

We had a nice dinner here during our latest holiday to Tuscany. Despite visiting Viareggio more than 10 times over the years, we'd never managed to organise ourselves to eat in this restaurant before. The staff were friendly and the food was consistently good throughout. However, compared to other "high class" restaurants in the area, Lunasia isn't quite up there (I'm thinking Il Picolo Principe, Lux Lucis, La Magnolia) despite being equally as pricey.
