Exploramer

A marvelous combination of aquarium and hands-on experience, the perfect way to introduce visitors (especially kids) to a region still dependent on the sea. Probably the only way to experience fish-harvesting without hiring onto a boat -- and if there's a species in adjacent waters, it's probably in one of its tanks (including live cod, sea urchins and lobster).

Couleur Chocolat

Reviewed By n8fire - Montreal, Canada

I remembered watching TV a few years ago where they mentioned a great chocolate artisan in Ste-Anne-Des-Monts. I had made a mental note to check it out the next time I would visit and honestly pretty much forgot about it until driving around town and seeing a sign that said chocolate pointing up a narrow side street.
That's when it came back to me and I'm glad it did. As soon as I stepped into the shop I was offered a chocolate to try. There were two choices and I opted for the espresso one which was absolutely delicious. I was hooked. 100$ later I was getting out with 4 boxes of chocolates.
I since had the chance to sample most of the chocolates and I must say it's well worth stopping by (or making a detour) to try them out.
I'm sure I will be back next time I'm in the area.

When planning our trip, this activity sounded neat, so we decided to throw it in even though it added several hours of travel.
On the day planned, the weather was substandard. It was cool with occasional showers. Cool we knew would be fine for digging rocks, but we weren't interested in rain. We decided to go nonetheless. The place is hard to find. Coming from Sainte-Anne-Des-Monts, drive straight through Gaspésie National Park. When you enter Chic-Chocs, look for a dirt road going to Murdochville. Turn left on that, then watch for signs soon thereafter for you to turn right to the mine.
We found it, and felt that it was well worth it. When you boil it down for what it is, it's just collecting rocks. You really don't know what you're going to get until you split them open. Despite this, the entire family had a great time. The kids absolutely loved it, and cherish their new treasures that we got cut open. The guy doing the cutting is awesome and really helpful to try to determine which are best candidates for cutting open and which are not. No charge if it's a dud.
Cost for a family of four was $57 to get in and dig. We ended up spending another $50 on cutting. Then, believe it or not, we couldn't agree on which uncut rocks to throw away, so we packed them up and they flew home with us. Makes for heavy luggage, but kids were so attached to these. Total, we spent over 3 hours there even though it felt like a lot shorter.
