Somerset West (Afrikaans: Somerset-Wes) is a town in the Western Cape, South Africa. Organisationally and administratively it is included in the City of Cape Town metropolitan municipality. It is situated in the Helderberg area (formerly called Hottentots Holland), about 50 kilometres (30 mi) east of Cape Town central city area, and 10 kilometres (6 mi) from Strand. The town is overlooked by the Helderberg (meaning "clear mountain"), a part of the Hottentots-Holland range of mountains. This was our first visit to Lourensford. what a breathtakingly beautiful venue! Very well organised, right from the parking, friendly professional staff attending with friendly welcoming smiles. We were a group of 6 friends, together to celebrate my husband's birthday! Service at the Millhouse restaurant was fabulous. Happy staff attending , nothing was too much trouble. The pizzas were delicious. We sat outside on the deck. We did a wine tasting in the cellar after lunch, which was fun and informative and, this is a wine estate we will definitely be inviting all our friends to visit, and we'll be back! We also enjoyed the looking at the diverse Art in the Art gallery. Restrooms were pristine. This is a place to spend the day and chill and just enjoy the beauty.

Now enter the main area, designed to hold you in awe, showcasing the sincere, clean essence of our Old World-style wines. Tall glass walls allow views of both the working cellar and the farm below, while raw concrete columns frame artworks from well-known South African artists.

The setting is unrivaled, perched high overlooking Somerset West - we were there on an overcast day and it was still spectacular! The service is what really stood out to us, the people are just happy to be there and nothing is too much to ask. Shane the sommelier was great throughout, Faith our waitress was a delight, each chef who came out to present a dish was excellent, and even the Executive Chef, Gregory, wasn't too caught up to leave the kitchen to check on each table and stay for a chat. The food is obviously the highlight, every course, every bite is an experience, and the wine pairing with the dégustation menu is spot on with wines from the farm itself. We didn't want to leave and could have stayed there forever. An absolute experience from start to finish - thank you!

This picnic spot is like no other........ set in the most beautiful forest of camphor trees, each table, and a super big, comfy bean bag, are set apart allowing privacy, is just the most glorious way to enjoy a "picnic in style" - a lovely treat for a good friend and me! Our waiter Goodness was excellent & ensured 5-star service! The food was outstanding and we enjoyed a fabulous bottle of Vergelegen's Sauvignon Blanc. There was no rush and we could enjoy a leisurely afternoon in the most stunning place imaginable. A must for South African's as well as international guests!! Don't forget Somerset West when considering the Winelands - there are some amazing wine estates here too! We'll certainly be back for another picnic at Vergelegen!!

Lovely view, fabulous ambiance, friendly staff prefect setting. The Chef Tian (From Kokkedoor fame) managed to create a fine dining meal. From the delicate Octopus to the wonderful Cob fish, with a delicate lemon and butter cream sauce We will be back !!!
