Rionegro (Spanish pronunciation: [rioˈneɣɾo]) is a city and municipality in Antioquia Department, Colombia, located in the subregion of Eastern Antioquia. The official name of the City is "Ciudad Santiago de Arma de Rionegro" but is named after the Negro River which is the most prominent geographical feature of the municipality. Rionegro is also sometimes called the Cuna de la democracia (Cradle of democracy) as it was one of the most important cities during the era of the Colombia's struggle for independence and the 1863 constitution was written in the city.

Hidden among the modern Llanogrande commercial retail stores in the Rionegro municipality across from the Airport Roundabout is Mundos Ribs, Carnes y Vinos. Like a colonial hacienda, its breezy porches and cozy interior nooks and crannies make for a delightful or romantic lunch or dinner.The grounds and porches surrounding the building are tropically landscaped and graced with a number of fountains, ponytail palms and ivy hung roofs. There is a separate gazebo across from the grill which offers a pleasant view of the pretty landscaping and from which you can watch your food being grilled.The outside roof overhang accommodates most of the guests. One side is heavily landscaped against the main road, with a fountain at one end. Personally, I found this side of the property a bit gloomy and opted for a brighter, open location.The entire, as mentioned, is really cozy and romantic, with limited seating. (Most of the tables are ringed around the hacienda.) Occupying much of the interior is a huge wine collection. Celebrating on one occasion, we enjoyed a bottle of La Flor Sauvignon Blanc. It was delicious, among the cheapest offered and still set up back $50 [July 2014]! Next time, we bring our own bottle: that's generally permitted in Colombia and there is usually no corkage fee.The main touted offering is steak, but an extensive menu invites you to try many Mediterranean-style dishes, particularly as Entradas (Appetizers). You will be greatly impressed by the huge portions of tender, flavorful steaks offered in variety, Angus and Colombian cuts equivalent to top sirloin and New York. The meat came served with string beans/broccoli, baked potato and the ubiquitous arepa (q.v.). You will not find anywhere here the humongous russet potatoes we enjoy in the US; these are a fraction that size. But flavorful.The Mundos Baby-Back Ribs were really the best I've ever tasted, moist and meaty, drenched in their delicious barbecue sauce and reasonably priced. Living in Colombia, the bar is set quite high for steak, which is generally superb most places you'd think of frequenting. That said, Mundos' servings will not disappoint.Although not yet tried, word has it the grilled chicken is also excellent. Next impressive mentionable is an extensive list of Appetizers. These run international in nature from Pâté de foie gras maison to Moussaka and Thai chicken/beef rolls, Clam Pâté, Kibbe & Sour Cream, Stuffed Tomatoes, Stuffed Artichoke, Mushrooms Grilled/Stuffed with Blue Cheese, etc.Chicken is offered grilled, griddle cooked or fileted with Cajun sauce. You can order sea bass or salmon with lemon pepper sauce or prawns in curry sauce, accompanied by coconut rice or grilled with gnocchi. Fish is expensive in inland Colombia; prawns (what we'd call large shrimp) are out of sight.From what we sampled, desserts are not Mundos' forté for the amount of up to $6.00 charged. I couldn't resist "Secreto de la Abuela" (Grandma's Secret). Besides the ice cream, the soggy, tasteless dough was a big disappointment. The Milky Way Cake was described as "ordinary iced chocolate cake." The ice cream was quite good however.End a meal with delicious Colombian coffee (tinto) or an Aromatico (Fruit-flavored tea) and you are overall quite happy indeed.Service at Mundos can be languid or slow. But that is generally the national style.

If you like good arepas then come here. I had a terrible arepa in a supposedly good place. Here they have tasty fillings and sauces so you can't go wrong. Highly recommended.

If you live or are visiting in the Rionegro, Antioquia area, Savannah Bar Restaurante is the place for excellent beef. The domestic beef served at this steakhouse is comparable to the finer cuts of US beef. Savannah is tucked away inside Mall Puerto Bulevar at the junction of the Jose Maria Cordoba Airport and Don Diego-Llanogrande roads in the Llanogrande vereda of Rionegro. The restaurant is popular with locals and ex-pats who enjoy great beef. Mall Puerto Bulevar is an open air emporium of international restaurants located less than 10 minutes away from the Jose Maria Cordoba International Airport. The menu consists of a variety of grilled and charcoal dishes. From personal experience, I would stick with the grilled beef dishes. Beef dishes are Savannah's strength while other dishes not so much. Savannah beef is tasty and tender... my favorite is the Sterling cut beef done medium rare. Entrees are accompanied by excellent sides (including potato served as per request). Optional appetizers are available at additional cost. Fresh fruit juice, bottled soft drinks, domestic and international beer, liquor and wine are available from the bar. The restaurant is open air, and ideal for business or family dining. The staff is friendly and courteous... meals are delivered promptly "hot off the grill." My wife and I visit Savannah several times a month because we can be assured of excellent beef at very reasonable prices. For beef dishes, I highly recommend Savannah Bar Restaurante.

We had delicious large solomito (beef steak) with nicely spiced rustic potato, salad and coconut lemonade. The service was great & the waiter spoke English quite well. They also called a cab for us when we finished our meal. An interesting variety of beer as well as mixed drinks were also available. They also do deliveries.

We had a really nice lunch at Brasas. Service is excellent, our server was helpful and friendly.We ordered different steak dishes, all of them really good. I had a Solomito with a wine and mushroom sauce and loved it! For dessert we tried a Flor de Jamaica Milonga, like a little typical pastry. A wonderful sweet bite to end our meal.
