Upstairs Jazz Club

My wife and I had a great dinner and jazz performance by the Fuel Junkies. The food was excellent and plentiful. The music was extraordinary coming from three great sax musicians. Equally entertaining and great musicians were the two guitar players and drummer. I was able to get the last table when I made my reservation for the early show. The table was right in front of the band. The place was packed which is understandable as it is a great venue with excellent jazz performances and reasonably priced food.

Le 4e Mur

One of my top 3 bars in Montreal (have been in many bars in the city). Neat decoration. Relaxing environment. Friendly staff (and bilingual). Amazing cocktails and drinks menu (They also have wine and beers). Some of the best mixologists of QC (and maybe Canada). Authentic Speakeasy (Prohibition - Gatsby style) experience. A must go, on your own or with your friends, every time i brought friends visiting from other cities they enjoyed the place and the drinks.

My wife and I were in Montreal on vacation and looking for some live jazz. Other clubs were full, but came across this place. Walked in on a Friday night about 20 minutes before the music started. Got a seat right in front. Place began to fill up. Three young kids playing jazz (bass, drums and sax...4th member was delayed getting there at start)....and man could they play! All were strong players, playing hard be-bop jazz. Definitely recommend the club and the music...and no cover charge. Drinks were reasonably priced. Very large whiskey collection. Worth checking out. Had a great time.

House of Jazz

Reviewed By JimT811 - Winnipeg, Canada

I was born in the wrong decade last century! I wish I could have been around when clubs like House of Jazz were popular and many. It’s sad that there are fewer and fewer, so we’ll make do with this, which does not fail in presenting an example of what that golden age must have been like. The music, in our case the Taurey Butler trio was incredible. If you read anything on him you’ll see he’s compared to Oscar Peterson, and this is dead on the mark. And we’ll backed by one of the most energetic and emotive bass players, and a drummer who can make magic with the simplest of skin sets, created a night of magic. As to the foos, it was very good. Dont get me wrong, but while I enjoyed it, it is pricey, and along with drinks and the cover, this is not a cheap night. But it all comes together as an atmosphere, and if you close your eyes just a little, and ignore your bill, you may just believe your back 70 years.
