Meltemi Restaurant

Set just off the main square this is a very popular restaurant. Having eaten there now I can understand why.It was very busy when we arrived they found us a table inside which was good because it was windy. We ordered the lemon lemon which was really good but the stand out dish was the Kleftiko. Beautifully cooked, subtly flavoured and a big portion. The house wine was decent enough and not expensive. The service was prompt and polite throughout and, if we had more time, we would definitely go back.

Oasis

It’s a really nice place where to have your dinner: the staff is nice, the food-tasty, and the prices-reasonable. Little tip: go early or late, otherwise you’d have to wait in a queue. I had grilled calamari, which I strongly recommend. The dzadziki salad was also very tasty but could be a bit strong for the unaccustomed to the strong garlic flavor.Btw, this place seemed like the meeting point for Germans in town.

Scirocco

Since opening in 1995 on the Greek island of Naxos, Scirocco has become somewhat of an institution in naxos not to be missed. Behind the scenes mama Katerina creates her favourite dishes, which luckily for you, she shares with more than just her family. H

Those are the three words on all the shirts in this fine establishment. 2 brothers own this place in the square near the fountain in Naxos town. They are always there, interacting with their guests, making sure everyone has a great experience and really good food here. Lots of locals eat here which is always a good sign. The brothers are enthusiastic and live up to their fantastic motto. I would love to clone this place and bring it to the states as it would be an instant winner. My wife and I ate here two nights in a row it was so good. The prices are very reasonable for what you get, and portions are often shareable. On night one we chose a bottle of white that we had tried at the Moraitis winery in Naussas Paros across the water. They sell this in the restaurant for 21 EU a bottle. It’s a fantastic crisp vintage that went well with our meal, and very local also.We never seem to get quality wine per bottle for prices like that in the states. We shared an appetizer of smoked salmon and avocado on a pita that night. Kind of a new twist on Greek food and we loved it. Didn’t finish it so brought some home and had fried eggs on top the next morning in our apartment. Really delicious! We then had the lamb lemonato. You can really tell that grandma was involved in this recipe. Super tender lamb cooked in the oven for 4 hours in a sauce to die for. They let you choose potatoes, or pasta or rice. We choose the rice. Super long grain and cooked to perfection. Truely memorable tastes! We had been eating a lot so stopped there but everything we saw go by looked great, we decided to go back again tonight.Tonight we repeated the wine choice because it was so good. We started with a unique salad with black eyed peas, arugula, sun dried tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, onions mint, and capers in a lemon vinegrete. Very unique and healthy .Tonight we tried the beef baked in tomatoes and had the rice again. Delicious. Between the two, the lamb was the best but both were memorable. We decided to try the orange pie for desert which was fantastic. We appreciate so much the care that is taken to make sure the food is good and everything is as it should be. This restaurant should be higher on TripAdvisors list, not that it’s doing badly. Try it, you will not be disappointed!

Scholarcheio

Reviewed By SSORSF

I've been coming to Naxos for 20 years. My husband and I found Scholarcheio during a rain storm. There are a few tavernas on the same side as Scholareio so it's difficult to pick one...but we picked Scholarcheio and we are so happy we did! Yourgos is a fantastic chef and he only presents fresh dishes. On top of that he is super kind. We found Scholarcheio about 7 years ago and now we stop there every time we are in Filoti. Location is right across from the bus stop. The food is great and the local hospitality is like no other. I saw some weird reviews here..but like I said there are a few tavernas right next to this one so I'm thinking there might be tough competitors. Scholareio is great!

Likouris Tavern

* Firstly, apologies for lateness in posting review! *Without doubt, Filoti is my most favourite village on the entire of Naxos island. Located just 18km from Naxos, the island's capital, the setting is just gorgeous - a traditional Cycladic village built amphitheatrically on the slopes of Mount Zas. The approach to the village is truly a spectacular sight - abundant olive trees grow in the fields and the white-washed flat roof buildings make a splendid backdrop in the distance. The main street of Filoti, the centre of village life, is heavily treed (providing lots of shade and reprieve from the scorching Mediterranean sun) and pretty flower boxes adorn the pavement (the shopkeepers have a lot of pride in the appearance of their village). As the village is elevated, it offers wonderful views of Naxos island. This isn't a review about Filoti, so I will move on to Lykouris Taverna - but I wanted to paint a picture of Filoti, so you realise that travelling 18km from Naxos is well worth it - after all there are plenty of restaurants in Naxos, but venture out and you will not regret it. It will be a double win for you - the most DELICIOUS food on the entire island, and the opportunity to visit a gorgeous, quaint, traditional village as a bonus. Now for the food - we'd hired a scooter and explored inland, and the north-eastern beaches for the day. Since we were so impressed with Filoti, we promised ourselves that on the way back to Naxos, we would eat dinner in the village. We drove up and down the main street a couple of times, before choosing Lykouris Taverna (it's located at the quite end, not the busy end near the corner as you first approach the village, if coming from Naxos). Boy-o-boy, it would have to be one of the best decisions we made all trip! The food was absolutely DELICIOUS - so much so that we made a special trip back to Filoti the following night, to again eat at Lykouris Taverna. We weren't disappointed second time round either - it was just as good, if not better! It's a family run business (the owners having lived abroad for a number of years - if I'm remembering correctly, I think it was Canada) - the husband is the chef, and the wife does the front-of-house. She has bucket loads of personality and charm, and speaks very good English. We truly felt like we were dining as friends of the family. On the second night when we returned we were welcomed with beaming smiles - and insistence that we park our scooter as close as we possibly could to the restaurant entrance, so that we didn't have to walk far (so sweet!). The menu isn't large - which is a good thing - the world's best chefs often say 'less is best' - and whilst we didn't try everything on the menu (wish I'd had the time to!), I'm confident in saying that no matter what you order, it will be DELICIOUS. There are enough choices (traditional Greek food and wood-fired pizzas) to satisfy all tastes. We ordered traditional Greek food both nights, but we did see pizzas being served to other diners and they looked amazing! What we ordered, and highly recommend, is the Bread (rustic, crusty and served warm - substantive like a sourdough - I think it may be Greek Psomi) and Greek Tzatziki (drizzled with glistening extra virgin olive oil and garnished with plump kalamata olives) Greek Salad (so fresh and delicious), Saganaki (bubbling fried cheese with a perfect golden crust, served with zesty lemon), Stuffed Grilled Peppers (these were DIVINE - I was expecting them to be stuffed with a rice mix, however when we cut into them they were filled with a lovely soft, delicate but tasty, cheese - YUMMMM!) and Chicken Kebab (absolutely AMAZING - so much so that we ordered it the next night too!) - succulent chicken char-grilled to absolute perfection - as were the vegetables (red onion, tomato, peppers (or capsicums as they're called in Australia)) - served with superb hand-cut golden, crunchy chips (fries) and a generous side salad, drizzled with a yoghurt based white sauce and oregano - oh and not forget the fabulously fresh and juicy lemon that was served on the plate. Quite possibly the best Chicken Kebab I have EVER had - truely! We found the portions to be very generous, and also exceptional value for money.Do yourself a favour and eat here! Your visit to Naxos (and Filoti) will be all the more memorable for having done so.
