Bahia Concepcion

Sheltered bay perfect for kayaking, swimming, snorkeling and fishing.

Reviewed By BagleyOceanRacing - SF Bay Area

The Beaches (everyone has their favorite) are great for camping. Many long time RV-ers (snowbirds) and super friendly people. Vendors come and sell food, water, crafts, fishing trips. Most Beaches have pit toilets and garbage cans, some have restaurants (but this can also create unwanted music blasting into the night), some are managed better than others (cleaner, fees collected regularly). Prices are about $8 a vehicle or $8 a person. Some have casitas to rent. If you want a REAL zapoteca rug, ask for Miguel y Isobel from Oaxaca. They make some amazing rugs, all with a story, out of natural dyes and fibers. Be mindful of your footprint (clean up after yourself) and safety. Just like anywhere else in the world, don't leave your vehicle unlocked or valuable outside. Amazing paddle boarding/kayak and swimming (in warmer months).

Mission Santa Rosalia de Mulege

Reviewed By JBMW002 - Ensenada, Mexico

The Mission is quite small but with some great history. It's located on top of a hill looking out over the river and palm trees. Make sure you walk behind the Mission to some steps that go up a rocky area which gives you great views of the river below and also some great photo opportunities of the Mission.

Mulege Tours - Day Tours

For years as we have gone through Mulege we have missed out on seeing the cave paintings at La Trinidad. Wonderful day up a sacred canyon to see the painting.
Salvador was very knowledgable and as an herbalist I appreciated learning more about the desert plants. It was a good value. Salvador provided water and an excellent Sandwich. We also enjoyed the citrus ranch on Ice House Road. The paintings are still brilliant after all these years and very inspirational.

Baja Sur Prison Museum

Reviewed By Nick H

This is an old time prison and now the local museum. Prisoners were released during the day and spent the day working in town. At dusk, a conch shell was blown and the prisoners returned for the night. They had nowhere to go if they tried to escape as there was no way out of town because of isolation of the community before the highway was built around 1973. The museum displays items related to local history. One interesting thing was a battle where locals defeated an American adventurer who invaded Baja with the idea of seizing yet more of Mexico's territory for the USA.

Dive Mulege

Reviewed By tmpix - San Diego, California

We were in Mulege for a week of snorkeling & scuba diving - all with "Dive Mulege". Here's what we have learned…
Mulege is a great and beautiful place, and if you are careful and lucky, you will have some absolutely amazing days on and in the water there.
This review is factual at the time of writing. Of course some businesses can change owners throughout their existence. Maybe at some point this shop will have a different - and better - owner. But if you are going to be dealing with Robert Pickering, proceed at your own risk.
Robert really is a fun and gung-ho guy who is eager as a puppy. This can be great. But instead of being a good businessman and taking good care of his customers, he is just doing what he likes, and we the customers are just helping him to pay for his hobby. He's in the water before you are.
BE PREPARED for any kind of failure. Equipment failure. Boat trailer failure. Engine failure. Make sure you have some back-up plans if Robert can't go out on the water.
DO NOT give him all money up front. Book your own hotel, and pay the man after you have gone on one of his trips, or only pay him upfront one trip at a time. Again; do not give him all the money for all your (planned) days on the water. We did, and this was a big mistake.
Funny story - Robert was complaining about a guy who he paid to clean up some trash around the shop. The guy took the money and ran, and never did what he was paid to do. Robert cursed about this to no end. Ironically, Robert did the exact same thing; he took our money and never did all that he was paid to do.
DO NOT believe everything he is promising you.
Over the course of just a few days he promised us many things, including a long underwater cave, a canopy on his boat, sushi at his place - freshly caught, a trip to Isla Tortuga and other things. None of this ever came true. Worst of all, due to the boat trailer failure we missed out on a whole day on and in the water. Robert promised a refund many times - first in person and later by e-mail. Alas - he proceeded to whine and complain and make every excuse possible about why he can't give us a refund. The very last message from him was that he was closing shop and going out of business.
But… the website is still up, and Robert is still advertising his shop on a spearfishing message board. Promoting a business that he told me was done.
Again; you are warned. Be careful.
