Staying the night in Taumarunui before doing the Timber Trail, we discovered that the RSA club restaurant was a two-minute walk from our motel. Despite an influx of hungry older group travellers, the busy staff were unflappable, friendly and provided us with a substantial and reasonably priced meal from a decent menu.

WE were travelling through Taumarunui and after scanning the street, decided to give this cafe a try. It's a big space, and they had got some character happening in the decor, and it has big windows looking out to the street. We had breakfast and coffee and enjoyed the food, it was fresh and good healthy options which is always a bonus. The cabinet food had some great looking fresh salads.The staff were very friendly and chatty, and we thought it a good all round cafe to visit.We travel a lot, and it is always good to find cafes that serve fresh, interesting food that you can visit again.

This is a takeaway and not sit down restaurant. Had a mixed bag of food. Mostly acceptable. Must depend on who's cooking. Fresh fish comes in on a Thursday so depending on what fish available. Sonetimes snapper or blue cod. Worst visit the chips soggy and batter not great. Last visit a week ago and delicious gurnard oysters and chips which were crunchy. Home made chips so all different sizes and nice if cooked crunchy and not soggy prices reasonable.

Quiet night in Taumarunui but we were well looked after at the lumberjacks tavern. Couple of beers, a steak meal and a steak burger with a chocolate mud cake to share. The steak was cooked to perfection. Highly recommed this gem.

We were looking forward to trying out the fish and chips from the carriage but unfortunately, everything was so greasy that we couldn't eat it. Very expensive for greasy fish and chips. Please make sure your oil is hot hot hot and food well drained. Although the service was fantastic, the food and the value of the food was not.
