The restaurant is really nice.The service is really gentle.It's pisdibe to eat fish either meat.I wiukd suggeats the mixed steak, very nice and to drink with a goid wine When we were tgere it was empty. No idea of the reason.

Our third visit to both the Hohe Duene (stunning hotel in which this restaurant is located) and "Der Butt". The food presentation is even more impressive than two years ago when we were last there. The staff is attentive and professional. What a superb evening we had there.... yet again! A gem that stands out in this part of Germany. We'll certainly be back when we're next in the area!

We went to blauer Esel for lunch, four people. I have to admit that the atmosphere and the decoration is incredible and it shows they have invested a lot in the restaurant. But it also raises the expectations high.. the complementary bread and butter were very tasty and probably the best thing we tried. We had a salad with couscous which was refreshing and tasty overall. The mains we tried were the burger, the ribeye steak and the vegetable lasagne. Food was average really, in more detail the burger was okay, the ribeye was not a ribeye and the lasagne were sheets of fried vegetables with cream and cheese and probably one of the heaviest dishes Iâve ever had. I am sorry but for the price, which is on the expensive side, the menu needs a lot of improvement. One more comment on the food: they did not ask us how we wanted the steak cooked which is unacceptable for a restaurant like that. Service was really slow especially considering that there were 3 tables only. I do not want to find out what would happen if the restaurant reached its capacity in people! In general, I think there is room for a lot of improvement, especially considering the high prices!!

Thiswith place is a little hard to find. They cater to bigger groups or people who want an interesting experience. Its in a very dark cellar and its hard to see. You eat everything with your hands, so think about what you are going to have. Its a little diffucult to pick up sauerkraut with your hands. They serve a hard bread. so save some to help you with your meal. The food is ok. They do not take credit cards

I would consider myself well travelled and I have quite high standards when it comes to food. This is by far my favourite restaurant ever.In fact, I love it so much, that I sometimes don't want to tell anyone about it, so it never looses its unique charm.Think of a romantic, old french town restaurant ... it seriously is like in a movie. Exposed brick, authentic, different ... words can't really do it justice.Frank, the owner of this place, will show you the daily changing menu on a gigantic handwritten blackboard. He is one of those passionate, heartwarming people, that are rare to find.Like I said, this review can't do its beauty & charm justice. It is honestly that place, that you thought only existed in movies.
