Bolton (/ˈbɒltən/ ( listen) or locally [ˈbɜʏtn̩]) is a town in Greater Manchester in North West England. A former mill town, Bolton has been a production centre for textiles since Flemish weavers settled in the area in the 14th century, introducing a wool and cotton-weaving tradition. The urbanisation and development of the town largely coincided with the introduction of textile manufacture during the Industrial Revolution. Bolton was a 19th-century boomtown, and at its zenith in 1929 its 216 cotton mills and 26 bleaching and dyeing works made it one of the largest and most productive centres of cotton spinning in the world. The British cotton industry declined sharply after the First World War, and by the 1980s cotton manufacture had virtually ceased in Bolton.

This pub is an absolute gold nugget where the ales are all very good indeed, especially the Pavillion which is my favourite. The pub has maintained it's traditional style with no loud music, no pool table and generally inhabited by the over 30's. The buzz of conversation and laughter permeates around the premises and beer garden with a large number of locals and visitors alike. The staff are very proffesional and attentive at all times. A fantastic array of award winning beers, ciders and whisky's are always available making the choice of what to have very difficult. Whilst the pandemic has put us all on 'no ale' pressure, the brewery are now selling bottled beer just to keep us going. Superb. The ARTDecor styled sister pub in Horwich gives the Tap a good run for it's money too!
