New Bombay Grill

After looking forward to a change of cuisine it was disappointing to stumble into this excuse for a restaurant. There were clearly issues in the kitchen to do with capacity/ability and very clearly issues out front to do with experience. Apparently “looking for a new chef” was the explanation to any patient or hungry potential diner. But it’s like telling passengers on a cruise ship you are looking for a new captain. Message to the parents/owners. Close until you get properly organised. We struggled to get a drink and half the starter when it arrived was missing and at that point declared unavailable. Then we waited. Then we left. Not good enough to be number 11 in Salmon Arm. Hello there traveler! We are so sorry we weren't able to provide you with the quality service and food we are known for. On Thursday June 28th, our staff had skipped some prep work to attend a family's grad event which caused a bit of a backup with so many orders coming in at once. But this is not an excuse at all for not providing our valued customers with the best food and service. Management has stepped in and we are making changes as I type this to ensure that this doesn't happen again. We truly believe we have one of the best curries around and we want you to try it. So if you would like to give us another try, email us at [email protected] and get $25 gift card for your visit.

My wife and I had dinner at this restaurant for the first time tonight, and came away delighted! You expect to find great Indian food in the cultural melting pot of big cities, but not necessarily in a small off-the-beaten-path town like Blind Bay, BC. We ordered Butter Chicken, Lamb Mango Curry, and the Namaste Special Biryani, accompanied by some Naan Bread. It was a delicious feast. The Butter Chicken and the Lamb Mango Curry came with Basmati rice. Each of those dishes would have been enough of a meal for one person, but we wanted to try the Special Biryani – we happily took some leftovers home. Every dish at this restaurant can be custom spiced on their 1-to-5 hot pepper scale. The Butter Chicken (ordered as 2-pepper hot) was very good, rich flavour, and just right in terms of "heat" for us – we don't like hot spicy food too much. The Lamb Mango Curry (ordered 1-pepper hot) stole the show. The lamb was incredibly tender, and the mango sauce a perfect accompanying fusion of flavour. So. Very. Good. And finally, the Namaste Special Biryani (ordered as 1-pepper hot) was also a delightful fusion of flavours. It's a mix of Basmati rice, vegetables like green beans, potato, peas with pieces of chicken, lamb, and prawns mixed in. The spicing gives the whole dish a reddish orange colour. Service was very attentive, and we didn't have to wait very long for our meal to arrive. The decor in the restaurant is very spartan...they are in a location that has been a tough go for other restaurants. That doesn't bother us. The good food is worth it, and we will definitely be going back.
