Melaka Butterfly and Reptile Sanctuary

For the first time in 30 years, we are sincerely appealing for your help to tie us through the crisis as we made available our precious butterfly chrysalis for adoption, each of them was carefully raised from the moment they hatched from their tiny eggs. Each of them tells the story of dedicated farmers and staff throughout the metamorphosis. This is the only way we can ensure butterflies continue to fly … Pandemic Covid19 had brought about the most disheartening moment here. Our team was torn apart by strict Movement Control Order (MCO) imposed by Malaysian government since 18th March, 2020. Many of our laboratory staffs were locked down at home incapacitating them from rendering their care on thousands of larvae within the laboratories. As the nation embroiled in serious battles with Covid19, the Sanctuary’s only source of income was lost. With negative income and staff reduced to skeleton workforce, operation within laboratories is paralyzed.

Aquarium of Fisheries Research Institute

The first time I went to this aquarium must have been nearly 40 years ago. After that, the 2nd time I went was 10 years ago. My review is for the most recent visit which was just a few days ago. I was pleased with the recent visit because they have expanded this aquarium to have more fish tanks which are designed well (except for the fact that some tanks are too high for toddlers to see). The ticket prices are really cheap and you can easily spend a happy hour with your family. While you won't get the expensive crowd-pleasers like seals, dolphins and sharks, there's enough attractive fish and turtles and the whole area is pleasing enough. Recommended if you are in the area.

We were there for about 2 hours. Please check feeding time before you visit, we made it for otter feeding and it was fun. Bidayuh performance available on Sundays. Good varieties of animals, and well maintained. Has riding activities for hire, mini playground areas for kids too. Kids had fun feeding goats, sheeps, rabbits, deer etc. Saw an area for boating but wasn’t open when we were there, perhaps later on.

Put together really well with literally hundreds of crocodiles, all sorts of exhibits and knowledgeable English-speaking guides(some trouble communicating occasionally, but always got the answer in the end). Between feeding the baby crocodiles, looking at genetic anomalies, a 15 plus foot croc sunbathing and dozens of 4-meter crocs walking and swimming around, the feeding shows and stunt shows, plus a free meal for a very reasonably priced ticket(you can stay there all day if you like), I can't give less than five stars.
