10 Top-Rated Hotels in Malaysia

August 12, 2022 Christa Meece

Malaysia is a beautifully complex vacation destination, a land where ancient rainforests give way to multicultural city life. Capital city Kuala Lumpur is visually defined by the iconic Petronas Twin Towers, while in charming Melaka the vibe is more quaint and historical. Many of the country’s national parks offer opportunities for fantastic whitewater rafting, and the exclusive Sipadan dive site (off the east coast of Borneo) is among the best in the world.

1st stay @ Amari

Called prior to arrival to inform that we were only able to reach after midnight and to had some arrangement made. Hotel was quick to accomodate. Night shift Afiq that was at the reception was friendly and efficient with his service. Requested for extension of check out time, Afiq was quick with his decision and extended an additional hour for me. Generally cleanliness of the room is acceptable just that there was a few water stains on the writing desk and carpet was a little dirty. Another bad part is there wasn't shaving kit in the room too and aircon in the middle of the night just increase by itself and ended up waking up sweating.? All this wasnt a very huge issue till the day of departure regarding the check out timing. I believe there was some miscommunication which cause a little disturbance to me. Received a letter prior to the day of check out stating the wrong check out time, called the reception to verify however next day at 12pm still receive a call from Operator saying my check out time is 12pm when it was extended to 1pm upon check in. Hoping for better communication when I return got my next stay.

Really nice and comfortable room, but service was hostile

Reviewed By Sup3rnal

After more than a year since taking a proper holiday with our autistic son due to Covid fears, we decided to take a nice staycation with him at Hotel Olympic after reading some rave reviews about the rooms and the cafe. We were particularly interested in the Junior Suite with the cute double-decker bed/playhouse since it would be a fun addition to the room for our son to enjoy. However, we were put off from the minute we entered the lobby to check-in. Another reason why we chose this hotel for our staycation was that we had seen pictures of the "instagrammable" cafe which also serves good and affordable food. That would have been the icing on the cake for a staycation since we wouldn't have to leave the premises for meals. But when we checked in, we inquired about the cafe and we were flatly told that it was closed for a private function. No apologies, no consolation at all. We asked if we could order and take the food to our room and again, we were just told no, the entire cafe is closed for the function. No one from the hotel had the courtesy or bothered to inform the guests staying on those dates that the cafe would be out of commission beforehand. Had I known, I would have changed my dates so that I could actually enjoy the hotel fully. On that note, the person at the reception just told us to Grab our food, meaning to order via the runner service. Again, no apologies for the inconvenience, but instead we were warned to not stain the sheets or we were liable for the damage. We were talked to as though we were little kids visiting the mean stepmom's house, and not like paying customers. Despite taking a room meant to be occupied by a family with young kid(s), we could not enjoy any family time. We were constantly paranoid that even the slightest oily hand on the sheets would mean saying goodbye to our deposit or more. We could not rest unless our son was also asleep since we were afraid he would stain the linens while we slept. We definitely did not have any rest at all during our stay after chasing him around to ensure his hands were clean. We were planning on adding more days to our staycation if we liked the place, but we ended up cutting it short and looking for another hotel to enjoy some well-deserved time off. Here are the good and the bad of Hotel Olympic: GOOD - nicely done rooms, comfortable and great for kids - clean - well-equipped - affordable prices/value for money - location is somewhat strategic, but not very close to restaurants - great decor, perfect for pictures BAD - cramped bathroom - hostile in welcoming guests/conveying messages to guests. We did not feel welcome after being told we could not eat at the cafe despite the front desk displaying all the tasty offers and foodstuff - warning about staining sheets was not friendly - the window right next to the ramp to climb up to the top bunk of the kids' bed could not be locked, which is very dangerous; especially considering that the room is for a family. It is an accident waiting to happen - the roof of the playhouse fell off, exposing nails - only one elevator was functioning, and it was very slow All in all, for the hotel alone, I would recommend it to others. It's nice and cozy, definitely worth another stay. However, based on the service, I would not recommend it. Some may say that I am asking too much from a 3-star hotel, but I've stayed at other 3-star hotels and they treat guests much better. I understand taking care of the hotel property and ensuring they are not damaged, and I am all for that. I will definitely take responsibility and pay up if I caused any damage to the hotel property, but the hotel should also train their front desk employees to be more polite to guests, and not treat them like they are staying for free. Good service can be the difference between a forgettable stay and a fantastic experience. Good manners are free, while bad manners can bear a heavy price, especially in the service industry. I hope the hotel will do more to improve its customer service.

First of all....there are ants in room. Far from the Senai airport. The grab charges is pricy from RM38 to 50 per ride. It may more pricy during peak hours. Recommended to take Air Asia car ride Highly recommended for family with kids. Kids will enjoy the stay. Friendly staff. Room is spacious. Parents room separated with kids room by sliding door. Kids room with double deck bed with extra sliding bed at the bottom. Can accommodate 3 kids. Buffet breakfast menu is with variaty of choices. Near by restaurant are only fast food outlets such as Chicken rice shop, secret recipe etc. Walking distance. And there is a cold storage under same roof. Theme Park is recommended for the kids age 7 to 15 years. Nothing much for kids below 6 years. It'll be a waste. To avoid long que and waiting time, it's recommended to go during weekdays. We went there on Friday. Less people. We go all the rides twice without queing. We went again next day on Saturday. All the rides need to que for 2nd time Less activities in water theme park As usual food are pricy in the Theme park & not allowed to bring in outside food.
