Top 10 Walking Tours in Vancouver, Canada

March 15, 2022 Alice Mieles

Vancouver was founded as “Gastown” by an Englishman with a penchant for beer and storytelling. Today Gastown is a historic section of the Canadian metropolis, and the lively pubs still reflect the area’s former status as a sort of community drinking center. The city’s forests, grand parks, and impressive suspension bridge beckon travelers to explore them, as do the city’s shops and museums. Relive the glory of the 2010 Winter Games with visits to Olympic venues and the marvelous Olympic Cauldron.

This was an excellent tour, even though the wine wasn't as good as I had wanted it to be. Michael took us to 3 wineries, including an unusual mead winery. Then, after lunch we visited what must be the world's (at least Canada's) biggest, in terms of different flavors, ice cream parlor. More than 200 different flavors of ice cream! An excellent tour, provided lots of context to the development of the wine culture in the area and a lot of history along the way. Great tour. Worth the money.

Our guide, Liam was very knowledgeable and friendly. I guarantee we would not have found these restaurants on our own and each stop was better than the last. It wasn't too much walking at all, but the Gas Light area where we was clean and interesting. I would recommend taking one of these tours especially if you like adventurous eating. (It was also a good way to scope out some shopping sites as you walked to the next stop)

It was my partner's birthday and I was struggling to find something we could do that would bring his friends together but in a way that was social distanced and safe. Forbidden Walking Tours to the rescue! They don't normally operate on Monday's but I emailed the to see if I could arrange a private tour. They were incredibly accommodating. The tour has been adapted to be fully outside and they are following provincial orders by ensuring that all guests stay distanced and are wearing masks. The staff even helped to organize keeping it a surprise from my partner which was greatly appreciated. Our guide was terrific, adaptable (they were filming a tv show in the area so he had to work around the film crews) and it was so great to hear some interesting tales about the city that we call home. And if you're concerned at all about weather, don't be. You can cancel up to 24 hours in advance. Can't recommend highly enough. Everyone in our group had a great time. Wouldn't hesitate to do it again.

City Manager Austin's experience of Vancouver food and culture is a powerful one. Outgoing and charismatic, he grew up in small town Ontario and moved to Vancouver 7 years ago and fell in love with the area right away. He enjoyed the seafood, sushi and the mountains right away and his energy on these topics will be sure to rub off on you. He has travelled to 35 countries and Vancouver is the place he always ends up back at. Being an athlete most of his life, his need for food as fuel made him a foodie automatically due to such high dietary needs. He thus made food an important part of his life. Living in Gastown himself as an actor, he is far from silent when it comes to giving tips and sharing his passion for the culture and food in
