Top 10 Walking Tours in Cappadocia, Turkey

August 11, 2021 Rebbecca Marino

Lying in south central Turkey, the moonscaped region of Cappadocia, southeast of Ankara, is most famous for unique geological features called fairy chimneys. The large, cone-like formations were created over time by erosion of the relatively soft volcanic ash around them. Past cultures have dug into them to create dwellings, castles (like Uchisar) and even entire underground cities like Kaymakli and Derinkuyu, used as hiding places by early Christians. Nearby Kayseri is the gateway to the area.

First and foremost, Looks Vacations was incredibly honest with me. Second to that, the company is safe, at least it was while I was on its tour. Lastly, it went out of its way to show me everything I wanted to see...and I wanted to see a LOT more than your average tourist.

There is no better way to explore the Valleys of Cappadocia than on the back of a horse. After all: Cappadocia's Old Persian Name is Katpatuka, which means "Land of the Beautiful Horses". Our horses are all of full Arabian breed. They have either been born with us or have worked as racing horses before (Elif and Eylül are champions!) and are now enjoying their retirement in Cappadocia. We make it our business that all of our horses go for a walk on their tours rather than work. Their limits are not pushed. Our misson is that we respect the individual needs of all our horses. Your and their safety and well-being is all that matters to us. Please note that we have a weight limit of 90 Kilos per guest.

Inclusions: Private transportation, Horse helmet

Great ride through the valley. Sunset was stunning. The trail was steep at times. It was also dusty. Strongly suggest wearing a mask, bandana or other face covering. Also, it is sunset ride. We went in late fall. It gets cold quickly when the sun sets. Dress for that! The guides were amazing. They helped everyone the entire ride! My iPhone cord around my neck broke and my iPhone went to the ground. The crew found it and brought it to me!! Great job. Also note that during some of the steep parts of the ride your horse may go fast without warning. I had enough experience to rein mine in. Be prepared. I would do this excursion again!!

This tour is done by Pupa Travel. Transportation, great! It was a new and comfortable ride with USB ports to charge your electronics. The guide was very helpful explaining every stop. The lunch was very good as well. But the best of the tour, it's that everything was included except for the souvenirs.

We joined this tour with our great guide Oguz. He was very friendly and giving us all information regarding region. He gave us enough time to enjoy by ourselves while making those moments unforgettable. I wanted to buy special meat “pastırma” during tour and he organized a short stop together with our kind driver. I would definitely recommend this tour with Hereke Travel in Cappadocia! Thanks a lot for all Oguz!

All I can say is wow! Well I can actually say more lol. This entire experience was truly amazing. I can't believe how I lucked up on this awesome experience. Everything ran smoothly. Like no issues-well except for the one time the driver dropped me off at the wrong hotel after the balloon ride. I told him it didn't look like my hotel but he insisted. But besides from that everything was perfect. I was picked up from my hotel in Istanbul and dropped off at the airport. I was picked up once I landed. Took an hour drive directly to start the red tour. I had a great tour guide name Torgor(?) I just remember him saying his name sounds like tour guide lol. His energy was amazing and he was just filled with so much historical information. We visited Pigeon Valley, Goreme Open Air Museum, Cavusin, Devrent Valley. We saw Pasabag, Fairy Chimneys and Love Valley. We had an air conditioner van to take us from place to place. We visited Avanos to a Ceramic Pottery shop. It was cool I was able to get hands on and make pottery out of red clay. We stopped by a nearby restaurant to have lunch which was included. We were done with the tour by 4pm. I stayed in Cappadocia View Hotel. It was ok and basic. The roof top has very beautiful views of everything. With free time I booked a Turkish dinner dance performance in a cave which I highly suggest. The next morning by 430am was picked up for the air balloon tour. This experience was completely amazing. After getting dropped off at the wrong hotel, I found my way back and was able to catch a traditional turkish breakfast at the hotel which is included. We had another awesome guide name Bidom(?) as our guide for the Green tour. We also visited Pigeon Valley again which was cool because I spent time in a different area and Goreme Panorama. We also visited Derinkuyu Underground City which was so cool and amazing. We visited Selime Monastery which was a very steep hike but beautiful especially the views; and Ihlara Valley in which we had lunch at a restaurant right off the river which was included. The food was delicious. Our guide was awesome and was very informative at every place we visited. Once the tour was over I was dropped off back at my hotel to wait for pick up to take me to the airport. Once I landed in Istanbul I had another transportation back to my hotel. Absolutely amazing experience. I wish it was an extra day added for a morning to watch the balloons from the ground up and to also ride the ATV'S or camels or horses and visit winery's and shops that sells rugs haha. But I loved it and I highly recommend this package
