Top 10 Tours in Beijing, China

May 18, 2021 Mikaela Didonna

Welcome to a capital city whose story goes back at least 3000 years. In Beijing, you'll find a wealth of history, both ancient (the Hall of Preserving Harmony, Summer Palace, Forbidden City) and more recent (Chairman Mao Memorial Hall, Tiananmen Square). For the best market experience, choose the Dirt Market over the touristy Silk Market. A visit to the Great Wall, the longest manmade structure in the world, is absolutely essential.

DIana our host was fun and knowledgeable which made for a great night out. We were a group of 9 and after meeting at Lama Temple subway station, we took our tuk tuks to the Hutongs and stopped at 5 places total. We had noodle dishes, Mongolian BBQ, Chinese pancakes and donkey meat burgers / pastries. Everything was delicious, we learned a bit about the history of the Hutong buildings and there was no shortage of beers / soft drinks along the way. We topped off the tour at a craft brewery! Lost Plate sends you the places afterwards and my wife and I actually went back to a place for lunch because we liked it so much. Can only recommend this tour!

Sherry did a fantastic job showing us some of the best and most important sights in Beijing. She had already booked tickets in advance and was able to help navigate us through various gates and QR codes, which made the tour much smoother, and she was extremely knowledgeable, interesting, and friendly. Seeing these sights was at least twice as enjoyable because she was there to explain them and make conversation with us. I strongly recommend a tour with Sherry. We had a great time at Christmas because of her.

The Lost Plate Hutong Breakfast Tour was awesome! It was great to see so much local food and taste a good number of popular breakfast items. I definitely wouldn't have gone into some of the restaurants unless someone guided me in, so I'm really grateful for getting this opportunity to enjoy some local food with a great guide. I highly recommend this food tour for anyone who is curious about the variety of breakfast foods in Beijing and wants to try more than 10 items. Prepare your stomachs!

We visited Beijing in July 2019 (sorry for the late review!) Our tour guide Julia was very informative and was able to answer all of our, and our 7 year old daughters questions about the food and areas we walked through. We enjoyed so many of the different food options it's hard to choose a favourite, but what made the the experience was eating in the restaurants and little pop-ups in the back streets where the locals usually eat. I particularly loved walking through the Hutongs and seeing streets and alleys you probably wouldn't normally walk down if you were just visiting a city. I felt we saw the real side of Beijing and not just the popular sights! My family and I highly recommend this tour!!
