I can't explain in words the feeling to be so close and touch and interact with these majestic animals,Amazing , Awesome , Unreal does not even compare. The most important thing is that these are elephants that was rescued from certain death,They are not wild elephants tamed for monetary purposes. There is 7 elephants in total. They are so friendly and calm , you can see they have been treated well, when you hear each one's story ,it's heartbreaking. The guide was very informative. The staff was friendly and well organized. The elephant's memory is amazing,We got to hug them , play ball with them , play a memory game with them and had lots of photo opportunities. We took our own photos and also ended up buying the DVD (quality of photos was amazing) Off season is the best time to go , fewer people ,more time with the elephants. I got to place my hand inside the elephant's mouth and feel his tongue while feeding it.I also got kissed twice by the elephant :) This visit was to celebrate my 30th wedding anniversary. This is something I will remember for the rest of my life. I want to take my children there soon.

Welgevonden Nature Reserve

We stayed at one of the corporate lodges within the reserve which was awesome. The reserve has plenty of game. We had three lion sightings in two days. The rest of the Big Five are there too. One does not have the option of driving around oneself, but the game drives were great. Your car will be left at one of the entrances to the park. The park was exceptionally clean and free of litter. Chartered flights are a possibility.

Valleys give way to grasslands and finally to mountains in this rolling, soaring wildlife sanctuary. Rare rhinos, African elephants, wild dogs and the prehistoric Cycad plants are among its amazing sights.

We had our first visit at Marakele, camped at Bontle Camp. What a great experience! Ablution facilities was always clean and well maintained. We reported a blocked drain in one of the showers and they immediately attended to it. Will definitely like to visit the reserve again - although is was very dry we still saw great animals and some extraordinary scenery.

Lovely to have the animals roaming amongst the accommodation. The staff were excellent and our few maintenance issues were sorted out very quickly. Accommodation was well stocked and well kept. The game drive guide was excellent. There were 3 different areas with pools, so social distancing wasn't an issue. The only thing that wasn't good was that their self-drive game viewing maps were not good and the roads insufficiently marked. Other than that, it was a great stay.

Fantastic homemade pizza from the wood fired oven in the beautiful garden with delicious craft beer (and you have to try the coffee). Owners are incredibly friendly and welcoming! Surround by dogs and puppies that have been rescued from surrounding areas, it’s a little piece of heaven in the wilderness.
