Although you can walk around this part of Tochigi City after getting off the train, you might find some places are challenging to walk due to extremely narrow sidewalks or lack of sidewalks. No bike path was available. Prepare to walk and bring cash. The City provides free WiFi.

This is a Buddhist temple of the Shingon sect founded in 765AD according to the temple’s homepage. It is located approximately twenty kilometers northwest of Tochigi City. On our way to the temple we passed many limestone quarries. I am told that the temple was founded in this area as a stalactite resembling a multi-faced Kannon bosatsu was found in a limestone cavern. (Kannon bosatsu is a particularly benevolent bosatsu that takes thirty three different appearances depending on the person it is helping. Some Kannonbosatsus have many hands and an eye on each palm. These are called Senju (meaning one thousand hands) Kannon bosatsu ). This Kannon bosatsu is housed in a temple called Okunoin which is about one kilometer climb from the main temple. Our visit to Manganji turned out to be much more interesting than we had expected.
We drove past the grand entrance gate and parked our car in the car park. From there we made our way past the office building uphill to the main temple. On our way we found a bussokuseki. This is the footprint of Buddha, on which one may stand and make a wish.
The main temple reminded us of Okunoin in Mount Koya. This is no wonder as the main statue of this temple is a Senju Kannon purported to be made by the founder of the Shingon sect, Kuukai himself.

Seriously guys, this mountain has something special on it, the tall trees of the forest provide such an amazing shade for eating Kakigori under them and resting before reaching the temple on the top... I love that mountain, specially the sundown over the city :)

栃木県南西部はサクラソウが有名で、こちらの道の駅にも国道５０号沿いに植えられたサクラソウが満開でした。どこの道の駅にもあるように地元物産の販売コーナーがあったので立ち寄ってみると、栃木県北の名物「レモン牛乳」をキャラメルにしたお菓子があったので思わず購入してしまいました。

巴波川のほとりにある趣のある建物で、かつて麻問屋と個人銀行を営んでいたそうです。内部には当時の帳場や銀行の事務所が再現されていて、見ごたえがありました。
手入れの行き届いた庭には長椅子が設えてあり、ポットのお茶が用意されているので、一休みするのにもよいです。ちなみに入館料は300円です。

Ohirasan jyinja shrine is a perfect getaway for someone looking for a quiet place and nature setting.very surprise that these place were sorrounded by souvenir shops and restaurants.

イチゴのとちおとめの摘み取り食べ放題というふれこみでやってきました。
大きなビニーールハウスがずらりと並んだとても大きなイチゴ園です。
他にもブドウもあるようでしたがシーズンではないようです。
ビニールハウス２棟を開放してくれました。
腰までの高さの台の所に植えられているので、
しゃがんだりしなくて良かったので楽でした。
コンデンスミルクは付いていないのですが必要ないくらい甘いです。
もぎたてのイチゴは食感もサックリとしていてパックにつめられた物とは全く違いました。
ただ、同じハウスにいたおばさんグループが吸い込むように食べてたので、
あっという間に食べ尽くされてしまいました。
行く時はおばさんグループとかち合わないようにした方が良いです。
園内には道の駅のような施設もあり農産物なども安く売られていました。

With 7 ziplines and two "Tarzan swings," this ropes course is a fun way to spend 2-3 hours and keep your kids entertained. Nothing too challenging (although the second Tarzan swing is a bit scary) and all quite safe. You'd need some level of Japanese for the orientation/safety explanation, but after that you get left to your own devices.
Bring ample quantities of bug spray.

トイレ休憩に寄って見ました。道の駅スタンプも押したく探したら、2箇所あるようで、一方がお土産屋さんの入り口付近、もう一方がとちおとめジェラートのお店のある店内、ついででしたがとちおとめジェラートを食べて見ました。ほんのりイチゴの香りが効いた甘いジェラートでした。ポスターのようにもう少し明るいピンクであって欲しかったです。
