This cool, calm neo-classical building can be found in a quiet corner of Rovigo, facing a residential square. Unfortunately, the restraining hand of the architect was clearly absent when the interior was completed, meaning that it is a floor-to-ceiling riot of images of saints and local worthies. The devotional image of the Virgin and child, which the church was built to contain, is somewhat swamped.

We came to Rovigo specifically to visit an exhibition in this attractive gallery, just off the main square. However, we were also impressed by the gallery's core collection of Italian art, including a lovely Madonna and Child by one of our favourite artists, Giovanni Bellini.
The gallery, like the town of Rovigo itself, is calm, friendly, unhurried and not crowded. Recommended.

A lot of care has gone into designing how things and history are presented in this delightful museum that first and foremost is informative and at the same time entertaining. It is a great place to visit if you are in Rovigo: it will tell you a lot of the troubled history of this part of the Veneto where the water of its great rivers has been its curse and saving grace. The modern approach to how a topic of this kind is nothing short of genius. It celebrates and provides thorough historic and scientific background to the perennial battle of man and water in this area and how from this a unique cultural identity was born. Make it a priority to visit if you are in the area.

Impossible to describe the emotions you get, sailing the Po river in its delta. It seems to be back in those times described in the famous movie of Mario Soldati with Sofia Loren "La donna del fiume". GREAT! GREAT! GREAT!

This is a pleasant-enough square with the council building and a few other historical buildings, but for Italy, nothing to go out of your way for.
Full of bars, gelaterie, etc., at reasonable prices as this is not a tourist town.
There are street stalls at Christmas and some other times of the year.
A favourite place for locals to mill around after work, on a Saturday evening, or on Sundays.

The building itself is quite striking, a good example of Venetian Renaissance in the heart of Rovigo. The building is an excellent space for art shows and apparently for conferences too. Well worth your time if you are in Rovigo. Its presentations are linked with Palazzo Roverella across the street.

The two leaning towers in the center of town are some of the most recognizable landmarks of little Rovigo, which doesn't have too much else going for it when you compare it to its sister cities in Veneto.

A nice enough church, to pop into if you happen to be passing, but nothing out of the ordinary. Like everything in Rovigo, it is a five-minute walk from the main square.
Una chiesa bellina, da visitare se dovessi trovarti nelle vicinanze, ma niente di speciale. Come tutto a Rovigo, si trova a cinque minuti a piedi dalla piazza principale.

The main post office, like everything in Rovigo, it is a five-minute walk from the main square. Both the outside and the inside of the building are worth a quick look, it seems an Italian thing to house main post offices in historical buildings.
L'ufficio postale centrale, come tutto a Rovigo, si trova a cinque minuti a piedi dalla piazza principale. Vale la pena dare un'occhiata veloce sia dentro che fuori, spesso in Italia gli uffici postali centrali si trovano in palazzi storici.

This impressive church is still an active centre for local worship and devotion, giving it a lived-in and loved feel. The cream walls of the interior create a calm, uncluttered atmosphere without ever becoming austere. No truly spectacular art, but a fine painting by Palma il Giovane in the north transept.
