Wilde Wasser

Bodensee (Styrian) is a small Alpine lake close to Schladming. It is completely surrounded by Mountains and this makes the landscape more spectacular. The full tour around the lake lasts for about 30 minutes (slowly) and you may add another half an hour to visit the waterfall. Maybe of equal interest is the performance given in the water by thousands of Forellen. Usually I plan half a day for Bodensee and it is better to be a sunny day but it is also nice during bad weather. Fishing is not allowed and swimming is not indicated.... Cold water. There is no boat cruise on the lake but you can rent small boat (ask at reception of Forellenhof) and drive yourself). Find below some details.
1. Access to Bodensee: on Alpine road from Haus bei Schladming (that I recommend) or by Aich, both along B320.
2. Follow the Alpine road. The one that starts in Aich is narrow and indicators are lacking in many branching points. If not indicated, follow the rule "always up".
3. From the parking you have to walk down about 10 minutes till the lake. Cars are not allowed and this is very good. Parking is free of charge.
4. The tax is 3 Euro per person (1 Euro for children), free admission with Schladming Sommercard.
5. Forellenhof restaurant is excellent (nice location, Panorama from the Terrace, good food).
6. If you travel to Liezen-Graz, you may use the road to Aich (6 km) and Grobming (13 km) on the same B320.
You may combine this trip with a half day in the swimming bath from Schladming, Aich or Grobming.

Skywalk Dachstein

Definitely an intense experience, especially if you have fear of height. Otherwise you have the same view from the bridge as from anywhere else, except that since it is a cable bridge, you may feel that you walk in the air - well, I didn't... Probably my experience is also shadowed by the fact that the place was full of tourists. Of course, I couldn't blame them, being a tourist myself, too. If you want to get rid of the crowd, you should jump into your hiking boots and there are some peaks to climb, very near the Gondola station.

Hauser Kaibling Ski Resort

Very good skiing here with long runs and plenty of trees for variety. Lifts are modern and efficient. A few Leitners have warmed seats. It is one of four Mountains in the system but keep in mind that slopes are steeper than average, particularly the runs to the resort, and this may not suit beginners. If you have only ever skied in France, you will appreciate the many mountain huttes for lunch. The tree-lined pistes are also a delight in comparison to many other resorts.

This is a good resort for intermediate skiers with lots of really good cruising runs spread over 4 Mountains.
Not a lot of blues or blacks and when we were there the snow wasn't suitable for off-piste.
Well managed resort with good grooming and an efficient list system which interlinks all the Mountains efficiently.

This is a stunning walk requiring some modest effort but is well worth it. The variety of scenery is great and the hospitality at the Hutte at the top is really good as is the food.

I am scared of the heights but, believe me this one is must do on your list. Best to do it on a sunny day so you can see everything, and it is beautiful. Minimalistic and according to nature. Do it!!!

Ten members of my family including me have learnt to ski at this Ski School, run by former slalom champion, Michael Tritscher. We have never been let down by the quality of the instructors or the management of the organization. Lessons in English have always proved exceptionally skilled and safe, but also, and just as importantly, helpful and friendly. We have covered all ages from 6 to 60 and all levels of expertise from raw beginners to advanced. It warrants my highest possible recommendation.

There is quite a bit of steep that you will have to climb. A good exercise it is. Its just amazing to follow the water stream upwards and to chase its origin. Just climb carefully and take good care of small children.

I have visited twice before this visit and each time my heart beats faster when walking out on the platform. Stand on the glass floor and look straight down or just feel the wind and clouds go past you. Lots of great picture opportunities, and the birds love to hover around you.

It was so fun! The idea is that you control your own kart with your own brake, it felt like you were going soooo fast sometimes. Once again wonderful views but be wary of people braking on their cart in order to take a picture, you could cause a pile up! The coaster cost 6.50 euro for one ride.
