An unpretentious building, located on the outskirts of central Padua, next to one of the archeological and historical museums, the Scrovegni houses an incredible collection of Giotto frescoes, depicting the life of Jesus, the Virgin Mary and a fabulous depiction of the Final Judgement. Reserve tickets on line. Only about 20-30 people are allowed in at various intervals during the day to preserve the integrity of the frescoes. A video is shown prior to entry, to familiarize you with the content and allow you to enjoy your visit to the maximum.

This museum is housed in a former hospital dating back to the 1400's and makes a fitting place to tell the story of the history of Medicine in Padova. The story is told in each area by knocking on a door, which is answered by some of the greatest science teachers of ancient Padua. Unfortunately, English subtitles are at the very foot of the presentation. Most of the displays are in Italian, however. English information is given on a card nearby in most cases. For the most part, touching and actively participating is encouraged in most displays. Learn more about Padua's role in the 16th century advancement of science. Anatomy, physiology, pathology, therapeutics are all areas that are explored. Don't miss the 8 meter long mannequin's anatomy/physiology lectures in the Vesalian Anatomy Theater. There were lots of school kids here. NOTE: Check hours before you go. It was closed after lunch till 2:30, open till 7 today.

Charming historical centre. Authentically Italian without the masses of tourists found in Venice and Verona. Plenty of bars to sit outside in the warm evening weather surrounded by glorious Venetian architecture and locals enjoying themselves

The Battistero del Duomo is a very worthwhile stop in Padua. Every inch of the interior is covered with beautiful frescoes - the masterpiece of Giusto de 'Menabuoi dating back to the 1300s. Sadly, no photos are allowed but it is not to be missed!

In this garden you'll feel like in heaven: in the centre of the city, just few steps beside the S. Antonio's Basilica you can get in this natural and cultural place at the same time. Magic place for whom has studied in Padua. Highly recommended for cheap ticket

An hour's drive from Venice and 45 minutes from Vicenza, where we were headed, we stopped in front of the gates in an almost empty giant car park. Open daily, except Wednesdays, entry is 7 Euros but a 1 hour guided tour is obligatory and the only way you are allowed inside.
Tours are at irregular hours and only in Italian so you might want to call and check times before visiting. We spent an enjoyable hour in the peaceful grounds waiting for the only tour that afternoon (and probably that entire day) as this government owned property seems little visited.
The building itself was a pleasure to see and the few staff we encountered were sweet and helpful. But we were very disappointed with the interior decorations, which mostly seemed surprisingly amateur. I think we were even more disappointed than we would normally have been because of our visit the previous day to the fabulous Doges' Palace in Venice, overflowing with artwork by so many master painters.
Knowing what we know now, we would skip a visit here in favour of more time in Vicenza. However, it was almost made up for by our lovely lunch at a cafe just 100 m from the front gate.
The Osteria Al Majo offers cusina tipica at a bargain price. For just 10.50 Euros we enjoyed 3 lovely courses all cooked by Mama plus wine and coffee; in some ways it was better than any meal we had in Venice and the first time on our trip that we encountered service with a smile. Not surprisingly, this modest but happy place was popular. Every chair at every table was taken.

Massive city walls but sadly a little neglected. Walked around the inside and found the houses built into the walls very interesting. Impressive in pictures - take your camera! Well worth a visit if in the area and a sense of medieval history is your thing!

Just a couple of blocks from the Basilica, the Prato is a great place to walk or jog on a sunny day, or to browse through the stalls during market or antique fairs. It has a collection of interesting statues and Fountains too. Across the street, you find a few cafes and restaurants.
