Top 10 Things to do in Mancora, Peru

July 21, 2017 Christa Meece

In Mancora, it’s all about the beach. Calm Pocitas Beach is a great place to soak up some sun, float serenely in a natural swimming pool or simply stroll the beautiful shoreline. Vichayito Beach is great for diving and kitesurfing, while the South Beach bustles with vendors, surfers and rowdy tourists. Book a guided adventure tour to visit nearby waterfalls and mud baths, or book a motorbike or horseback ride to explore the beaches and back roads.

Beautiful, silent, cozy beach. Long stretch, so always a nice quite spot you can find. We walked for 15 minutes, away from Mancora side, and found some nice beach chairs we could use when we bought a drink. The water has a perfect temperature and its clean. A grwat day out. A tuktuk from Mancora costs 7 sol (3 people). We go back tomorrow.

Went in to ask about fishing trips, and was told there were none available, but they tried to sell me a trip swimming with turtles. Now I am totally opposed to this interaction with wild turtles, who then become used to human contact, which puts them at severe risk of harm, and told the shop employee. He asked if I was a qualified biologist, and more or less told me to shut up and get out when I said I was simply a very concerned individual.
Very rude and unhelpful.

I started my Kitesurfing lessons on a really nice windy day. Rain (the instructor, not the weather) was highly professional and knowledgeable about the kites, safety and instructing in general. The instructors were very good, very friendly, with good equipment and very conscious of people progressing at different rates. We had a great party with them in between lessons.
It is a goal oriented course that aims to make you independent of an instructor so you can do it yourself. This is the goal - not the amount of days. I recommend at least a week set aside incase of hangovers/windless days.
Nacho took me on my last day and was very encouraging and energetic. They're a great bunch of guys and are running a great operation. Once you're up you'll love it!
Don't pull the bar, mate!

Mancora beach was definitely my favourite beach in Peru. I preferred to be away from the main beach where the hustle and bustle was. The water is quite warm and the waves aren't overly massive but still good fun (great for learning to surf on). Around 6pm the sun sets which is really beautiful to sit down and watch. It's not recommended to walk on the beach at night so take a tuk tuk back to where you need to go.

We are new to the sport, but Pepe, my 1:1 instructor was extremely patient and thorough. They have all the equipment and take care of transport and everything. Would highly recommend! We're hooked and will need to find kite Surfing on further travels to continue learning.
