Stockwood Discovery Centre

Visited on a whim when it was quiet. Found all the buildings freezing cold but to be fair a lot of that was down to other inconsiderate visitors leaving doors open despite there being signs asking that the doors be closed. The displays were very interesting however most of the interactive displays were broken or just not working. The staff seemed uninterested and certainly not welcoming in fact when we first entered we thought we were in the wrong place as we felt like intruders there was no welcome smile or "is this your first visit can I help?" We actually had to initiate conversation and then we gave up as it was so begrudgingly responded to. However all that said it is well worth a visit especially with 10 to 14 year olds as it has such interesting items on display.

The local knowledge is great, along with the exhibits. They are varied from the town to its forming, period clothing to the Football club, it's on two floors and a great place to take the family for an afternoon. More than I thought.
Depending on what you parts read and how long it takes you it will be between 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 hours.

Wrest Park is 92 acres of wonderful walks through formal Gardens and parkland. I’ve visited several times over the years and watched them restore Gardens and buildings. My favourite features are the Grotto and the pet cemetery. The parterre has also been restored and is always planted up beautifully though the Italian garden is usually the best.
Wonderful place for a walk with your dog (on a lead) and the cafe is a welcome addition.

I have been a member of this casino for some years now. I like the layout. It is clean and all bar one of the staff are helpful and friendly. I visited on Friday night. Previously I have noted the miserable Scottish female pit boss. She has always put a dampener on any visit but she seems now to have moved up to a new level of misery. She was so mean to our lovely croupier who made a minor mistake. Instead of gently correcting her, she publicly took pleasure in humiliating her. It was truly ugly, mean and unnecessary. It completely spoilt the evening and she seemed to revel in the act of her meanness. The transgression of the croupier was so minor that the victim just wanted to play on and forget all about it. But the pit boss dragged it out and eventually the victim got his £2 back. The poor croupier was almost in tears but bravely held it together. Two of the people at the table declared there and then that they would never return whilst this horrid pit boss was still in place. I now join their ranks. She is so miserable, so horrid and managed to kill off any enjoyment by her mere proximity. I shall be e-mailing the casino direct ensuring that I only attend on her days off or hopefully when she is dismissed. If ever you go away and your kids have a party at your house, just send her around. Party over!

Stockward Park is located in the south of the town towards the M1 motorway.Coming off J10a of the M1 you pass a golf course which is right next to it.There is also a rugby club sandwiched in between the park and golf club. The park has an athletics track and a very good discovery centre with excellent Gardens and museum. The park is the biggest in Luton and gets very busy in the summer months. If you want a good day out then the park offers much to do.

The recently modernised house has got some interesting interactive displays and there are two museums upstairs - local and military. Really friendly and helpful staff. The house could do with a simple brief description of the house history. Some interesting paintings. Really nice dining room cafe although they could do with a few more seats outside in the garden. A few bits and pieces in the shop. Nice garden and park, though nothing extraordinary. Free so overall a good review.

A local football ground which has served us faithfully for many, many years. A smallish stadium but has a lovely friendly atmosphere, good shelter and private boxes. Car parking is a major problem but not far to walk from train stations and buses stop nearby. Hopefully our new stadium will soon be underway!

A favourite dog walking spot for us in warm weather, as it has nice shade and a stream for cooling off.
Lovely chalk hills, well maintained, unfortunately littered by people who hold sundown parties in the summer, but the volunteers keep it as well as they can.
Can be muddy in the woods, but recommended for peace and nice views

I had a few hours to kill and decided to wonder around here. It has many "strange" people hanging around here and there aren't a great array of shops to wonder around in.
