Had a mix of private and group lessons within the family and we are all very satisfied with all aspects of our courses, all the way from the early administrative inquiries (very fast email responses) to first day meeting and subsequent lessons.
Would definitely recommend them again. Thanks to Quentin (88) in particular.

It is not always easy to ski to St Martin but this year has been exceptionally snowy and the runs to the village have been amazing. All credit to the lift operators as they have over the last few years opened up this area considerably adding new paths and runs to make it easier to escape the massed hoardes on piste.

Les Menuires

Reviewed By Flavia A

Les Menuires is a very nice resort, placed in a fabulous landscape. The infrastructure is impressive (they have many lifts that help you move easily through the resort) except for the parking which is insufficient.
The French accommodation policies (for affordable accommodation) are a total nonsense and of course apply to 3 Vallees as well:
- all accommodation starts and ends on Saturday (this leads to huge traffic congestions so plan at least 2 hours of delay)
- rooms are very small
- you clean your own room or pay extra; possibly you bring your own sheets/towels or pay extra
- you perform an inventory at check-in / check-out (I only saw that in France and communist Romania)
- bad services
In addition to this, Les Menuires is expensive (although cheapest of the 3 vallees high altitude resorts).
The ski slopes however were not what we were expecting.
This applies to the entire 3 Vallees area.
First of all, their category is often misleading.
The blues are often narrow and can have very steep and very flat portions. The "blue" that links Courchevel to Les Menuires ("pic bleu") seems almost black on portions. Other "blue" links are actually green ("ours", "gros tougne").
The reds usually have few steeper portions, which usually (and immediately) develop bumps.
Bottom line: the entire area is not suited for beginners or snowboarders.
Of course, all of the slopes look poorly combed with the blacks rarely combed at all (this seems the norm in France).
They have many kilometers of slopes, but they are poorly interlinked. Examples below.
For the La Masse area in Les Menuires, the only way in/out of area is to get to the connection point beneath Les Menuires.
From Les Menuires you can easily reach Val Thorens, but the way back is inconvenient (all the way up to Col de la Chambre or via the long and flat Bd Cumin).
Le Sommet de 3 Valees (starting point of the zip line) is also hard to reach (Combe de Rosael is a horror black slope, not at all as short as shown on map).
Perhaps the biggest problem is the geography of the area.
For some reason it seems to be excessively warm in the area. We got 12 degrees in Val Thorens (2300m!) at the beginning of March :|
The slopes under 2000m were often frozen in the morning and watery in the afternoon.
I guess there is some kind of microclimate which brings warm air from the Mediterranean sea.
So don't let the "Val Thorens 2300 the highest resort" idea fool you.
The highest point is 3200, which is quite low. Also the majority of slopes start around 2700-2800.
One other problem is that there are no higher Mountains around to shield the valley. This means that you can get very high winds at the top of any slope (because most start from mountain peaks).
This is why the links between the Valleys are too often closed.
Combine the conditions above with an insane number of people on all of the slopes, at all times (except Saturdays).
Conclusion: while it's interesting to visit the 3 Vallees at least once and it's unlike anything else, don't go there mainly for skiing or you'll be disappointed. We will not return to France for skiing too soon.

Centre Sportif les Menuires

Reviewed By Esmerelda9991 - London, United Kingdom

I came here after skiing for a quick swim, however there was no swimming to be had. I fully expected it to be busy but it was not a metre to be had for swimming. The staff refused to put out a lane rope. Apparently swimming is only allowed on specific days for an hour or two and not on the evening I visited! As soon as it became apparent there was no swimming to be had I asked for a refund of my jaw dropping 17 Euro entrance fee. The staff refused. I therefore tried the sauna and steam room but they were equally disastrous. They were crowded and noisy and the hot tubs were not accessible either as they were just full of children with even more children queueing to get in. Why the hot tubs, sauna and steam room are open to children, I don’t know. There was no management available and all the staff I spoke to were unhelpful. In my opinion this facility is poorly run and ridiculously overpriced.
