Da Anna Maria

Reviewed By Flo G

It's a rather tiny place so best to book ahead…I was told that the wood fired pizzas at Da Anna Maria were the best in town…of course when expecting such a level you are often more critical, as when going to see THE movie everyone is rabbiting on about, but to be fair, I found mine (margarita with buffala mozzarella and fresh basil) fairly decent and tasty.
Nothing outstanding though, but I guess I was probably expecting a lot more due to my friend's recommendation.
The chef is passionate about recreating the real napolitan pizza, with real napolitan ingredients (you won't find your average french pizza menu and liberal adaptation of regional dishes such as tartiflette pizza or merguez pizza for instance…) but I guess it is all in his honour.
My favorite ingredient on a pizza being creamy melting goat cheese, I was somewhat disappointed, but understand that it is not something you would find on a traditional napolitan pizza, so…never mind!
I would return though. It's a good address and the service is fast and friendly, very clean bathroom (always a good sign!) and convenient central location in Chambery.
Oh, and good value for money too…you can choose between two sizes, I think the smaller size would have been fine as I really struggled to finish the regular one.

Lucky to get a table for three without a booking on a busy Tuesday evening. Glad we arrived a little early. Service was friendly and helpful. We had both crepes and salads. Both were delicious with lots of local ingredients. Very filling indeed. No room for dessert. We had delicious apple cider which was the perfect accompaniment to this hearty food.

L'Entracte

A great Italian ristorante at Chambery, with fresh product, and delicious pizzas. If you like Tiramisu taste it is so delicious.

Difficult to find a restaurant in Chambery on a Monday evening (as many are closed). This one was was open and had decent reviews on TA. So we tried. We were nicely welcomed. We ordered a mix of bruscetta (OK), salads (quite good), pizza (considering we are in France it was OK), and tartar beef (to be prepared by the client - beef quality OK). A good Lambrusco (light and fizzy red wine from Northern Italy) was also available. Reasonable prices. All together nothing to write home about. But a decent place for dinner.

After a tour of Chambery, we searched for a suitable lunch-place and found 'Les Halles' just before heavy rain began. They offered a 13-Euro two-course lunch and we both chose Crusted Fish followed by Creme Brulee. To counteract the cheapness of the lunch we ordered two 125ml glasses of Montagny Premier Cru, a good quality white burgundy. This was as tasty as expected and seemed to have been a somewhat generous filling of the glass for 125ml. The fish dish was nothing special but my wife (who is an expert on creme brulee) awarded a scary 9 out of 10 for the dessert. Apparently both the flamed sugar topping and the creamy interior were of top quality. We were entertained by occasional sounds of thingder during the meal. They do have around 6 tables outside, beside the restaurant. There are many more tables inside.

Cafe de Lyon

A wonderful find! Service is friendly and although there are no menus in English the waiter translated in his lovely French accent for those in our party who didn't speak French. It felt like a real local place and indeed it was full of French on the Sunday we visited. We ate à la carte although there was a formule available for a good value €25 for three courses. The white asparagus crème brûlée was delicious and the fish of the day was well-presented, as were all of our dishes. The café gourmand was massive and I'm glad we shared one between two! There were 5 mini desserts on the plate. I'd love to go back.

At an evening City was full of music, a tradition when the summer starts, and full of people, we have managed to get a table in this restaurant.
Staff very friendly and professional. Starter nice carpaccio of cod fish (house speciality). Beautiful dish a very delicious. Main course super be grilled entrecôte with hand cut slim french fries. Dessert house speciality "sable praline". Very good.
Ordered a bottle of Poully Fumé (white Bourgogne). But out of blue got a free glas of local wine just to try.
See my pictures. Price quite high for french restaurants, but I really liked it all.

Excellent people, excellent place, and sometimes in the evening there will be a small concert or play or debate or game night...
It's all fair trade (and real fair trade, not just a label), or local, often organic, always with a smile!
You won't regret your visit (plus the beer and the rhum cocktails are excellent)

Stopped here to grab a quick lunch on our way back from skiing in Meribel and having hit the motorway traffic-jam! What a great surprise! We parked right outside, sat in the Sunshine and had the most superb meal - can't remember the name, but the owner cooked the most fantastic half pizza! The taste was superb and the price was right and the owner could not have been more friendly. To top it all, we were able to walk round the old village after eating, just 50 meters away.
