I visited when no special exhibits were going, but the building and setting and cafe are worth the visit. Small but interesting permanent collection.

The Deco-Yashiki is a multi-generational family craft makers who have been doing it the same way for literally centuries. The large woodworking and crafts building has been in the same family for hundreds of years and the current master of the craft is a young and vibrant young man. My daughter took a class in making a small craft of paper mache and painted it in the traditional methods. When she was sad that it didn't quite come out as she wanted, the master came out and encouraged here and told her it was beautiful! It really made her day and an experience that she will not soon forget. They craft masks, Miharugoma (horses), paper mache figures and some other cool stuff. The Japanese Wa shi, which is a traditional paper has been designated a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Object and many of the items are made with this paper here.

I remember coming here as a little kid with my cousins and treating the park like an adventurer looking at all of the unique rock structures and tree formations. It's a wondrous place and it sort of represents the stereotypical Japanese landscape with rocks and pine trees. Fun place to take pictures, contemplate life or do some sketching. Out of the way from the city but worth a little side trip.
