Hartlepool (/ˈhɑːrtlɪˌpuːl/ HART-li-pool) is a town in County Durham, England. The town lies on the North Sea coast, 7 ⁄2 miles (12 km) north of Middlesbrough and 17 miles (27 km) south of Sunderland. The town is governed as part of the Borough of Hartlepool, a unitary authority which also controls outlying villages such as Seaton Carew, Greatham and Elwick.

This was our first-time visit to the National Museum of the Royal Navy Hartlepool.
Very disappointed with the dock area had no atmosphere, play area's for children very run down. The staff showed lack of interest, planned events around the docks didn't run to the times advertised. The tour guide for the ship didn't say much except this was the top floor, bottom floor ETC not much history of the ship was given during the visit. Would not visit the dock area again.
However the Hartlepool museum was extremely good, well laid out and free entry. In fact this was the best part of the visit. Lots of history plenty of information and play buttons for all to push that started off certain types of engines. Spent more time in here than in the dock area.

The Heugh Battery Museum preserves the only First World War Battlefield in the UK and commemorates the Bombardment of the Hartlepools on 16th December 1914. We have a reconstructed trench, lots of large artillery pieces and rifle collection. We have a cafe serving hot and cold food. We are dog friendly, and provide a great day out for the family. PLEASE NOTE: There is a misprint on our latest brochure which reads that we are open Monday to Friday from June to August. We are only open Friday - Monday during this time of the year. We apologise for any inconvenience or disappointment caused by this error.

Old Hartlepool, the Headland, is a hidden treasure. With medieval walls and the place Edward 1st gathered his invasion fleet for Scotland it is well worth a visit. However the Heugh Battery is unique. It is the site of the battle between German ships and the British army in December 1914.
A fascinating place it was in operation until 1956. They have some of the guns used over a hundred years ago as well as other military memorabilia. It is preserved as it would have been in 1914. With displays of life in the trenches and an excellent collection of small arms it is well worth a visit and the fish and chips down the road are worth a visit too.
The ex REME soldier who demonstrated the weapons was particularly knowledgeable.

All in all an excellent trip to see even allowing for the tiredness of the museum and houses etc.
Need to spend half a day in here to get the benefit and to go on Trincomalee and around the Fighting Ships exhibition.

The museum is attached to the historic quayside and maritime museum.
It covers the history of Hartlepool from pre-historic to the present day and there is a special exhibition about Andy Capp and his creator on at the moment.
The history of Hartlepool section isn't always clear in the order the sections should be read / viewed, which is a little confusing.
There is also a (somewhat dilapidated looking) paddle steamer café moored outside.
I would recommend you pop to the historic quayside next door - though there is a charge for this.

Great beach for a relax and chill after fish and chips. Great views of Redcar and across to Saltburn Beach itself is clean and sandy, great for the kids.

Summerhill is a unique Country Park. Set on the western edge of Hartlepool it is both a Local Nature Reserve and an Out-door Activity Centre. You can enjoy most of the facilities on site free of charge with no need to pre-book. You do have to pre-book on our activities or when you want to hire our rooms or facilities. Contact the Visitor Centre for details.

Went for a pleasant walk around here with the grandchildren: you do need to have a sense of where you are because it is relatively easy to get lost! My grandson liked the climbing stones though on the second visit some local youths were displaying considerable foul language

A great place to take youngsters, people walking dogs can be an issue. Most are on a leash but a few idiots let them run free. The park has lots of space which is great for running games. Cafe is handy for a quick snack.

We went as a two family group for the winter wonderland after seeing it on Facebook, we had three very excited children in the cars. When we got there it was soon turned into disappointment, we joined a queue of families being turned away! Apparently, you had to book to go into the farm, although it did say on Facebook post that you only needed to book 23rd and 24th December! The woman on the desk was really rude to the families and us and basically told us to go away.
We got there for 11am and it was very quiet in the carpark. Seeing so many children so upset in the families was heartbreaking. The was no care from the woman on reception and she raised her voice and shouted at everyone as they were leaving! We joined the row of seven cars that had been turned away at 11am. We shall not return to this place and will make sure that none of our family and friends ever return too. Absolutely disgusting behaviour!

Located in a commanding position near the sea on the Headland, the Parish Church of St. Hilda is a very impressive building. Even though it wasn't open on the day I visited a walk around the exterior was an enjoyable experience. Wonderful architecture and really well preserved.
Well worth a visit.
