Loved seeing the rice art field. I was there too late in the year to see the Lotus in bloom, but was a fun place to go. There is an observation tower you can go up and really see the rice art very well.

The Morinji temple is located in Tatebayashi , Gunma Prefecture. If travelling by train, it is a walking distance of 15 minutes from the Morinji-mae station on the Tobu-Isesaki line.
The temple is a wonderful place with great views during the cherry blossom season. The temple is decorated with numerous images and statues of raccoons.
There is a famous folktale associated with this temple. The temples main entrance and the hall have been built using thatch.

Musashino Mura was fun, but the park pavement is aging a little. It also is very expensive. I didn't like that the free ride pass was linked to a single person, as with two parents and just one kid, it's pretty nice to be able to share a single pass (one photo taker, one rider).
It's also pretty close to an AEON shopping center, which is nice, if necessary. Remember to bring a swimsuit if going into the pool.
Comparable places in the region are Kezoji Park (Cheap, north Gunma), Omocha no Oukoku (Flexible, West Gunma), and the Tobu Zoo (nearby).

This is something for people who are interested in Japans early history. The Kofun park has a number of 5th/6th century burial mounds with a small museum and reconstructed burila chamber. The peculiar keyhole shape which is unique to Japan can be observed here.
It makes a great day trip because Gyoda station is easily reached in just below one 1hr from Ueno Station and a free bicycle rental is provided by the local tourist information. Oshi castle, several shrines, and the ancient lotus park are additional sights worth visiting.

Very engaging Freshwater aquarium for children. It is not the largest aquarium around and lacks large tanks but is still well worth a visit especially if you want to learn more about what’s in the rivers around Saitama and Japan. We went with our children, who are 4 and 6 years old, and they enjoyed it very much. It is worth every cent of the approx 800yen entrance fee we paid for our family.
It is within Hanyu Suigo park and the Aquarium is a great activity to do while at the park, we were there for about an hour I guess. It is air conditioned and was a nice escape from the August heat for an hour!

I read something about it being the most beautiful sight in the world, but I can't find the link now. I think I found out about the place from JNTO but their site doesn't have familiar info. Tatebayashi has this festival from mid-April to mid-May. During the festival, there are shuttle buses that take you to the park directly from the train station. It's been said the azaleas here might be the best in the world. There were many, many shrubs on display in different configurations and with a wide variety of colors. There is even an 800-yr old azalea tree on display.
I can't find any really good links or blogs on the web with pictures that do justice to this place. I did take a lot of pics but felt it wasn't quite peak bloom and was supposed to go back one day but never did.

Now that Sakura season ending North of Tokyo, we heard of Floor Sakura blossoms at the Treasure garden, Tatebayasji, Japan. It's a long travel of around 70 km North of Tokyo by Tobu Isesaki line train, but well worth it. It's a very nicely planned garden (entrance 800 Yen). Inside the garden there are large colourful flower beds of ground Sakura (not cherry blossoms.... they were nearing end). It reminded me of the Tulip beds near the great Kaukenhof Gardens near Amsterdam. ....It was a great spectacle with multiple coloured flower beds. Dropping sakura petals added white colour to the ground. There were not many people around on a Saturday afternoon and an excellent place to spend some quiet time.

It is probably not the biggest attraction Saitama, however if you are in the area and have a bit of interest in (Japanese) history, it's definitely worth to visit. The museum has English brochure, but the explanation texts to each articles are written in Japanese. You can see here the archelogical artifacts from the kofuns. Next to the museum there is an old farm-house of rich peasants, which is a great example of the lifestyle some centuries ago. There are several kofuns nearby, so a visit to the museum easily can be extend to a 3-4 hours or half day program.

We had an excellent family day here in mid August. The park is huge and features wide open spaces suitable for kicking a ball around, stands of mature trees with picnic tables under them, multiple modern Playgrounds, lots of public toilets and a very pleasant walking track built over and around a number of large ponds. Within the park is the excellent Saitama Aquarium which showcases Freshwater aquatic life with a focus on Saitama Prefecture. It's not huge and lacks massive tanks but was engaging for the kids and worth the 800 yen or so it cost our family of 4 to enter. There are two main entrances to the park both with large free car parks. We parked near the aquarium, next the aquarium is a shop selling ice creams, noodles, curry rice etc, there was also a van set up selling Shaved Ice. There is a huge pavilion with picnic tables offering a shaddy place to have lunch before or after visiting the aquarium. In this area there is a small area put aside for rides on kiddy cars at 100yen a go and a bicycle rental service so you can hire a bike to ride around the park on.
It was our first time here and we were not prepared for the vastness of the park. Next time we go back we will plan for a full day at the park and head to the aquarium after lunch to cool down a bit.
There is a BBQ area, where you can bring your own BBQ and set it up, I am not sure of the details but I guess you would have to book a spot. This area is completely without shade so if you are planning to BBQ here recommend bringing a gazebo! I noticed that the two groups who were BBQing while we were there had trolleys to get their stuff to and from their cars. This worked well as the main paths around the park are sealed and suitable for this.
Across the road from the park entrance is another interesting place, called Kiyasse Hanyu, it was closed by the time we found it, but looks to be a farmers market and home to Hanyu Brewery. They have an outdoor play area for kids with some ride on bikes and a fantastic interactive Fountain for the kids to cool down with. The brewery seems to be a restaurant where you can have a meal and a few pints! It looked to be a great place to enjoy lunch and relax for a while the kids entertain themselves in the play area.
We will be back - this is a great spot for a Sunday at the park!
