The national park and nature reserve actually span areas in the municipalities of Haninge and Tyresö. The main buildings (museum, visitors' centre etc) are at Tyresta Village in Haninge (buss 807 or 809 from Gullmarsplan in central Stockholm.). If you follow part of the long-distance trail Sörmlandsleden for about 10 km you can get to Nyfors in Tyresö and catch a different bus back to civilisation (873 or 813) Or vice versa, of course!
There are lots of other shorter trails to follow - and a little café at Tyresta By if you didn't bring a picnic. Our favourite walk starts at Nyfors, to go round the area affected by the big forest fire in 1999. (Buy a map at Tyresta - or they may be available at the municipal offices or Libraries in Tyresö or Haninge) Fascinating how the forest and stones were affected and are now recovering...

When visiting Stockholm, and you would be allowed to visit only one thing: go to Vasa: the setup of the museum is fantastic! When you come out, you learned something on acient Swedish way of living, but also the basics on shipbuilding.

This castle is located about a half hour´s drive south of Stockholm. It dates back to around year 1200. It was the main location for the German Order coordinating other properties in Sweden.
The main building was erected in 1660-67. The property was bought in 1895 by Carl Fredrik Bremer, the father of the author Fredrika Bremed who was raised here.
Now it is the main bulding in Haninge Golf Resort.
In christmas time the restaurant is open for the typical Christmas Table.

Wonderful old town with fantastic architecture, beautifully preserved and looked after. Unfortunately, as with many tourist spots, the main streets are chock-a-block of shops flogging evrything possible to tourists, but get in the back streets and things quickly change. Just a lovely experience, especially in the cool of winter. Fantastic tasteful christmas lights.

Big inside and outside area for the kids to play in. Inside there are cars to sit in and drive around a mini village (my daughter's favorite) as well as a small climbing area and climbing frame with slides.
Outside there is a small Tivoli (some rides included in the entrance ticket, some not) and a lot of climbing frames, trampolines, a labyrinth, boat area and more.
The cafe has ok food for a decent price, also alternatives for the most common allgergies (milk/egg/gluten as well as pork and vegan alternatives)
Entrance is 120 sek for kids, adults enter without fee. Easy to reach with bus from Tyresö Centrum.

This was one of many campsites we stayed at during our month long holiday in Scandinavia. The immediate area was beautiful and the campsite was excellent. The staff were so helpful, and thankfully spoke perfect English. There are excellent walks in the area and it is convenient for trips into Stockholm - we went in by rail. A highly recommended area for nature lovers and walkers!
