We happened along this place on our way to Hermanus. The parking lot was full so we thought it must be good. There is a restaurant, deli and bakery as well as a coffee bar. We bought a wonderful pre-made quiche and other baked goods....MoreSo pleased you enjoyed your visit! Hope to see you again soon.

Visited here with a friend for the waterfall quad bike trip and was amazing. The guides was very knowledgable and patient as was a shared trip with three other groups and catered for everyone. The stop at the waterfall was beautiful and even jumped in for dip. Thank you for an unforgettable experience.

A close friend tried to re-introduced me to Riesling. So off we go to visit Paul Cluver as they are the only manufacturers of this wine in our surrounds. We really were looking forward to a stunning outing. Although the Riesling we tasted was really superior and can be recommended, what a dissapointment our whole wine tasting experience was with an unfriendly staff member presenting the wine tasting. We literally had to pull any information we were interested in out of her. She was not forthcoming at all and we could not get of of there quick enough. Friendly clued-up wine tasting staff really makes a difference. Luckily Pick n Pay sells Paul Cluver wines as the farm will never see us again for wine tasting.

Hottentots Holland Nature Reserve

...again not well managed, see Helderberg Nature Reserve. Signs are almost not there and if, they partly are contradictionary. What are all those folks doing who obviously work for the Nature Reserve besides collecting the entrance fees and filling out templates for security reasons? Where's the logic in it?
We see it as a big danger to allow hiking in such a big Reserve without clear and idiot-proof marking of the different trails. Look at Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens and learn from them!
We could not enjoy the beauty of this park as we needed to stay on broad gravel roads in an area where all trees were recently cleared. Thus we made sure that we didn't lose compass.. Very disappointing!

Four of went on a Segway tour in Elgin on a beautiful Cape winters day - more than riding a Segway in a beautiful enviroment - we learnt all about this 'Robot' called the Segway, it is really a fascinating machine with technology and off road capabilities. With Craig's excellent overview of the Segway we were off on a memorabe journey - going up hills without any effort. We stopped off at a river for lunch and were served quality fresh sandwiches.
The trip the Segway was a really wonderful first time experience - and we had wonderful scenary to enjoy

If you are staying in Harmanus and want an action packed two hours then try this, wear old cloths as you will get very dusty, if you intend going on somewhere after take a change of clothing.

This was our second time, coming back after 25 years. Facilities have improved. Flushing toilets at huts. Lapas for cooking improved. Great areas to swim at regular intervals. Carry enough water in summer. Not recommended if you're not fit or have bad knees. Be careful. The first hut door has an emergency lock that can lock you out if you don't have the key with you.

Suicide Gorge

Reviewed By Matthew H - Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

I've done this hike 4 times, and I think it is probably my favorite hike in the world. It starts off as an easy stroll through beautiful scenery, until you get to the top of a gorge. And then it is time to jump of cliffs into beautiful pools of water, for the next 2 hours! You jump off of waterfall after waterfall, with the highest jump 14 meters. And once you start, there is not going back.
You must go with someone who knows the pools, because there is one after the highest 14 meter jump that looks like a great jump, but there is a big rock in it, so you must know not to jump there, there are no signs. You have to hike around that one.
Also, there are two exits, the first exit is soon after the last jump. The other exit is following the river down for another two hours, swimming in large pools of water for long distances, getting in and out of the water in your wet shoes and clothes numerous times (make sure to start very early, cause it starts to get cold and everything you bring will be soaking wet.) Then eventually you get to a large manmade pipe, where you leave the water, hike up a large peak and finally make it back to where you started. It is a long 8 - 10 hours. But amazing!
Don't forget to do the bum slide before the first jump.
