This is a road station identical where one can take a very nice picture with Mount Fuji as the backdrop. In view of the scenery, it is nice to drop by.

Road Station Fujikawa-rakuza

Michi no Eki Fujikawa-Rakuza can be accessed by TOMEI HIGHWAY Fujikawa Service Area (Heading to Tokyo) and local roads (Fujikawa Minobu Line). Cars equipped with ETC systems can use the Smart Interchange at Fujikawa Service Area, which makes access very convenient. It is a multi-purpose service area with restaurants offering locally-grown seasonal food, shops offering souvenirs from Shizuoka Prefecture and surrounding areas along with an amusement area and Planetarium. With an outstanding view of World Heritage Mt. Fuji and one of the three fastest rivers in Japan, the Fujikawa River, the beautiful scenery cannot be missed.

If you are used to rest areas in the USA then you should be ready for an interesting experience... this rest stop by the Expressway boasts great views of Fuji San, excellent restaurants and great gift stores. There are a number of restaurants in this location and we spent a while to decide which one to go to... each looked so good. We had the local delicacies including Sakura Ebi and baby sardines.

Mount Fuji Children's World

Reviewed By CaliforniaJackson - California

Took the family here in February, 2010. It was a weekday and we were the only guests at the hotel. The emptiness was great and we woke in the morning to a fresh blanket of snow and the whole park to ourselves. There is a sledding hill with a gentle, small slope and a larger and faster hill.
The staff at the sledding area and hotel are friendly. Food is OK.
Negatives: There are speakers placed every 100 meters or so playing children's songs constantly, drowning out the sound of the birds, wind etc. The song track repeats every 87 minutes.
Also you are never more than a short walk away from a drink vending machine (a possible negative in the outdoors for some).
It's billed as a snowy winter wonderland, but the staff was surprised by the three inches of snow on the ground in the morning, so they set the park opening time back an hour and a half and kindly forbade us to tromp up the hill until the paths could be properly cleared. You really rough it here!

Iwamotoyama Park

Reviewed By Taigaa - Fujieda, Japan

Iwamotoyama is an upland right east of Fuji River and the highest place is 193 meters above sea level. The summit area is a park with lawn places filled with plum and cherry blossoms during February to April. From there you can have a nice view of Mount Fuji. There are three outlooks in the park and currently children's outlook is closed for renovation. The outlook near the restaurant is obtruding to the sky and you can have a nice view of Mount Fuji, rivermouth of Fuji River, Kariganezutsumi Bank which formed like an fortress. Another outlook is near the trig point and you can see both Mount Fuji, Fuji River and some of the Minami Alps peaks with luck. The park is a nice place to walk around and you can see the wild birds at the wild azalea area.
How to get there?
From Monday to Saturday: There is a community bus called KOUME from JR Fuji station. During Ume festival from February 1 to April 14 extra buses are available from both Fuji and Shin-Fuji station only on Sundays except on February 24.

I went here before work one spring day, and am glad I took a bit of time to relax before a long workday. I wish I could have spent longer, but liked seeing the cherry blossoms, the sculptures, and some of Mount Fuji. I also would like to have had easier access by public transit.

Bishamonten Festival

Between the 7th and 9th of January on Japan's old lunisolar calendar (the exact dates change each year), the Bishamonten Festival is held at Bishamonten Myohoji Temple. Alongside the Jindai-ji Temple Daruma Festival in Chofu (Tokyo) and the Takasaki Daruma Festival in Gunma, this is one of Japan's three largest daruma fairs. Enjoy seeing a range of propitious daruma dolls, as well as an object of worship held to have been created by Prince Shotoku. It is said that praying before this item will bring great rewards.
