Highland Gate Golf and Trout Estate

Reviewed By JeemersanG - Johannesburg, South Africa

I just played a round of golf at highland gate and it was amazing. The quality of the course and the condition of the greens were unbelievable. The entire course was well maintained. The fairways were so pristine and the greens felt like carpet. The staff at the halfway house and clubhouse were very friendly. I didn’t have a good round of golf but that’s just cos I don’t play well hahaha. I can’t wait to play there Again.

The views were out of this world, particularly in the northern part of the Drakensberg escarpment with the amazing geological features of Bourke's luck potholes situated in the confluence of the Blyde and Treur rivers. We weren't so lucky with the God's window because of the low clouds making it impossible to see anything.

We booked for the early morning Handling visit. This is limited to 2 adults so it’s really a wonderfully close encounter. With a lot of patient instruction from Magdali, who shows an amazing passion for her calling, we handled 9 stunning birds of different species, each with their own personality. We spent 3 wonderful hours at the sanctuary and can certainly recommend this as an amazing adventure.

Early on a rainy morning, we passed this small coffee shop in Dullstroom. Luckily the owner was roasting coffee and enthusiastically explained the whole process to us. Where the coffee comes from , how they roast it , how the different flavours are blended and eventually the tasting. She sells a wonderful selection of coffees. We enjoyed a yummy fast breakfast with freshly brewed coffee- loved it.
