We visit Beverley regularly and often call into Beverley Minster whilst shopping. It is a very peaceful place which is very welcoming and there are always volunteers around to share their knowledge and enthusiasm. The carved heads are a delight to find and wonderful examples of the masons humour and imagination. There are regular displays such as local artists which add to the experience. Free to enter and have a quiet moment.

Beverley Westwood

Beverley Westwood is a great piece of common pastureland free for all to use (unless playing golf). Great to let the kids run off-leash or walk the dog - but please clean up after your dog! During the winter good for sledging after a decent snowfall. During the summer great for a picnic. There are several small wooded areas or vast areas of open grassland. No vehicles are permitted - thankfully.

Beverley Racecourse

A visit to Beverley Racecourse is a seriously good day out, a fact that the people of Beverley have been quite rightly proud of for over 300 years. Set in the stunning surroundings of The Westwood, the racecourse hosts horse racing between April and September every year. We have 19 race meetings in total, 11 of which feature extra entertainment and fun, from the family-themed May Day with a petting zoo and funfair rides to the glamour of Ladies' Day. For the racing fan, our Very British Raceday in June with its two feature races for the country's best two-year-old horses sees them battle it out in a fast and furious contest up our infamous uphill 5 furlong sprint (a furlong being about 660 feet for the as-yet uninititated.) There's always a warm welcome at Beverley, and whether you prefer to bring the family with a picnic and a rug or your friends for an afternoon of fun and catching up, you'll find lots of like-minded people enjoying the day and the excitement of watching your horse thundering home. Tickets in advance are much the cheapest way to visit and can be bought via our website, along with lots more information about all of our racedays. The staff were extremely helpful, with getting the documents and helping with questions. Can not speak more highly of them, they were excellent. North Bar

Reviewed By Carrie P - Greater London, United Kingdom

The Bar is the ancient remnant of Beverley's Northern Toll gate, which defined the Northern limit of the town. Inside the city city side of the Bar the bi-annual horse fair was held on the street within the bar while the bi-annual sheep fair was held in the street without the bar. Bars were built in a number of cities in England - like an ancient DART managed crossing or the M6 Toll - in the 12th and 13th centuries. North Bar is the only survivor in Beverley. It is a Grade 1 listed building and it is worth walking under and enjoying some of the finer details in paintings, and portcullis grooves which it offers for those who take a moment to enjoy reaching back Eight centuries in history. Built originally in the early fifteenth century for the princely sum of £97.11 pence Beverley could make more of this.

Coronation Garden

Reviewed By johnhouston2 - Knaresborough, United Kingdom

Situated in the Georgian quarter just before North Bar this is a very pleasant and peaceful little garden. Having been constructed on the site of an old burial ground it is nice to see that, rather than remove or destroy the old gravestones, they have been kept and placed around the garden walls, which is respectful and appropriately "in memorium" as well as being interesting and decorative.
