Morro do Careca

Reviewed By sipleb - Joinville, SC

The Morro do Careca is a small hill that sits between Balneário Camboriú and Itajai. Entry is free.
First the good: The views up there are spectacular - looking north toward Praia Brava and looking south toward Canto da Praia. There is also a parasailing company that will let you do a few minutes of parasailing for a couple hundred reais. There is also a little snack bar with drinks, açaí and restrooms.
Now the bad: Parking is a big headache. There is a small parking lot right at the base of the hill that is flat and allows you to maneuver fairly easily. If you go on a busy day though, you will have to park on the steep and narrow road that leads up to the hill. Getting in and out of those spaces requires the handbrake, and can be challenging. There can also be traffic jams with cars trying to get up and down the hill because the road is too narrow to have cars moving in both directions where one side of the road is used for parking. Thankfully, there are some park service employees that help manage the situation. Give them a few coins on your way out if they help you.

Morro da Aguada

Balneario Camboriu is a city in the state of Santa Catarina in southern Brazil. While it is best known for its Beaches, the city has another special attraction. There are two cable car lines which link the main city to the nearby beach at Laranjeiras. You have to first ride from the city to the top of a mountain which contains an environmental park. Adjacent to the environmental park are a couple of fun activities. These include a zip ride where you ride in a chair at around 60 kilometers per hour. There is also a car that makes close turns in the forested area at around the same speed.
After your visit to the environmental area, you can take a second cable car down to the beach at Laranjeiras. It is a smaller beach than in Balneario Camboriu. However, it is more quiet and secluded. At the beach, you can eat food with one of the restaurants that offers shade with umbrellas. Food selections include appetizers, seafood and shrimp.
The price for the cable car is 36 reais per person while the zip ride (line) costs 39 reais. It is best to leave before the trains close to avoid long lines. It is a nice way to enjoy your visit to this beach area of Santa Catarina.

Amores Beach

Reviewed By Frank d - Winston Salem, North Carolina

This beach was interesting and secluded, only reachable after a long walk on a boardwalk alongside a tropical rain forest. I was staying at Balneário Camboriú and decided to explore the adjacent Beaches. Vey interesting walk with many places to stop and take pictures. People fishing or just sitting around taking in the sights and the beautiful atmosphere. Highly recommend it if you want to get away from the large crowds, but try to get back to "civilization" before dark. I was told by the locals that it's not safe to stay there until night time due to incidents of muggings and assaults.
