The village of Ballachulish (/ˌbæləˈxuːlɪʃ/ BAL-ə-KHOO-lish or /ˌbæləˈhuːlɪʃ/, from Scottish Gaelic Baile a' Chaolais [baləˈxɯːlˠ̪ɪʃ]) in Lochaber, Highland, Scotland, is centred on former slate quarries. The name Ballachulish (Ballecheles, 1522 – Straits town,) was more correctly applied to the area now called North Ballachulish, to the north of Loch Leven, but was usurped for the quarry villages at East Laroch and West Laroch, either side of the River Laroch, which were actually within Glencoe and South Ballachulish respectively.

My sister and I took the 2 hour trip on the boat with Max and Simon! Was amazing, Simon is very informative and stories were fantastic! Max is brilliant and drove the boat and drove it into the platoon, only his 4th time doing so! Very proud big sisters ☺! Well worth a trip if you're in the are! A big thank you to Jill, Max and Simon!

We had a great half day out with Mark, weather was wonderful, scenery even better and Mark was a great instructor , very informative about local area and history. I would certainly recommend this to anyone going to the Glencoe area looking for something to do.

Visited for a days skiing when visibility was really poor so my comments are based on that situation. Visibility was about 15 - 20 metres. The top runs were closed so the lower runs were the only ones open and visibility was still terrible there. This is a situation that can be expected at any ski resort and I have experienced it several times in other countries. That said there was a distinct lack of signage at Glencoe which I thought was dangerous. Small wooden signs are not easily seen in such conditions and it’s difficult (near impossible) to identify which run you are going on. The coloured poles were as good as useless in these conditions and only started a good few metres down the run which means you are already committed and tough luck if you’re out of your depth!!! Please get some large run coloured signs up that are visible in all conditions. The snow was great but the runs were really bumpy and uneven as if they hadn’t been groomed for quite a while. Not a great first experience of skiing in Scotland.

The quarries are located just across the road from the car park at the Ballachulish Visitor Centre. They were closed in 1950s after the decline in use of slates for roofing in Scotland, so what remains is the excavations and small lakes with a few picnic tables. We took a slight detour along the signed 'Brecklet Path' that heads steeply uphill on the right, only going as far as a viewpoint from which there were excellent views out to Ballachulish village and Loch Leven and Mountains in the background. There is also a high arch built from slate which you can visit before returning to the parking.

Had a great time kayaking for the first time!!! Mark was a great instructor, gave us guidance and even told us about the area and historic info which made it more fun and interesting!! Highly recommended!

One of the best hills in Scotland, this is well worth a visit even if you don't' do the full ridge. The main summit can usually be reached in just over two hours for the average walker and much less if you're very fit. The full ridge which is a worthwhile excursion is more of a full day, with a lengthy walk back to the car park. Can either be climbed from Altnafeadh at the entrance of Glen Coe or can easily be climbed from Glen Etive, which is usually a quieter route. The hill has many scrambles and rock climbing routes with lots to do for the outdoor enthusiast.

We came here on Tuesday for the Segway and Archery. The staff were amazingly friendly and both activities were fun. The Segway was nice and easy. The archery was good but it could do with new innovative targets.
I only wish that they would lower the prices of the activities and give the men's toilet better decoration.
Overall this place is definitely the best place to do these activities in Scotland.

Great advice on not just the technical aspects of photography, but also the artistic and compositional parts. Very friendly and helpful - guiding rather than telling, very enjoyable. You couldn't ask for more if you want some help with your photography. I went away with some ace shots I'm very proud of. So, you get a nice souvenir and some new skills - perfect!

we found this whilst we were taking a stroll from the hotel along part of the disused railway line. We had no idea of this and of the sad story connected with the monument.
