Many years ago I used to be a regular for the Thursday night traditional music session. Now I seldom get the chance as Thursday nights are taken up with other things but I was there recently and its as good if not better than ever! Excellent pints and authentic music representing a living tradition. It is advisable to go early to make sure of a seat in the back room where the music is. The front bar is a good old fashioned pub with a decent clientele ( not greatly improved by my presence ) and, most importantly , great pints of Guinness.

Great little museum with a wealth of artefacts in the the Shackleton exhibition .It is so well laid out with and gives a great insight into both his exploits and personal life .Definitely a must see for anyone with an interest in Antarctic explorations . Also the audio visual introduction to The Grand canal,Gordon Bennett Race and WW1 gives a succinct account of these events in the community. The staff were very pleasant and helpful and is a little gem to visit .
