Penticton Farmers' Market

At the Penticton Farmers' Market you can find farm fresh veggies and fruits, eggs, honey, baking, preserves and handmade crafts - all grown or produced in the South Okanagan. PFM vendors proudly make, bake or grow everything they sell. The market also hosts a selection of local liquor vendors each week.

This Saturday morning market is a "must" when visiting Penticton or the surrounding area. It gets VERY crowded so I would recommend going as early as you can. You can find free parking closely. The market is made up of a "farm and artisan" side and a sort of "retail" side with a few artisan foods mixed in. It is an amazing showcase of what the farms and businesses in the area have to offer and so much of it is great. From wickedly delicious breads, beautiful fruits and vegetables, and beautiful baked items, your basket will be filled within minutes. It would be a true shame to be in this area and not take in this market.

We took some friends on a distillery tour of the South Okanagan and Maple Lead Spirits was by far the best experience. Barbara made all the difference, even though there was another couple sampling with us she made everyone feel like it was a personal experience. Her knowledge and general passion for the spirits she is presenting to us made for a very memorable experience. And I haven’t even mentioned the spirits. A good variety distilled in the German tradition made us feel like we were back in Bavaria. Just a note, the Maple Liqueur makes an excellent martini when chilled and paired with some Okangan Vodka.

Laughing Stock Vineyards gives you a really personal tasting experience where you have to book in advance to be able to access the premises, and the nonce there, you have a 30-45 min tasting of their amazing wines, while enjoying the amazing views of the valley they have. You must book in advance and it is difficult to find availabilities so plan in advance otherwise you will miss a great time. The staff is also clearly passionate, love their wines, and to talk and share everything about them too. We ended up leaving with many bottles and we will be back for more since they offer some wines you cannot find anywhere else. Of course, their flagship Portfolio is probably one of the best red wines in the region and in the country. And do try their blind trust, where you do not know what you are drinking and try to discover each varietal in it, which change every year.

Apex Mountain Resort

My sister, her daughter and I visited this resort located approximately 35 minutes from Penticton. After parking in a lot within walking distance of the Village, we set out to explore the area. We passed a skating loop and watched people enjoying the ice. We also passed by condos, lodges and cabins as we made our way to the shops and restaurants. Visitors were masked and maintained social distancing. We learned that other winter activities including snowmobile tours, hockey and snowshoeing were available. We watched skiers being pulled up the mountain by a t-bar. We studied a large map of the surroundings showing the 67 ski runs as well as the various ways to access the elevations. As we explored the Village, I was interested in the “hitching post” type of holders for skiers and snowboarders to place their equipment when they wanted to enter a shop or restaurant. Several carved, wooden totems appeared to stand on guard near a picture-taking venue.

We are located on the beautiful Naramata Bench in the heart of the Okanangan Valley. At LA FRENZ, we believe the quality in the bottle begins in the vineyard. Cutting edge and meticulous vineyard practices are used in combination with varieties tailored to the unique soils and micro climates of our vineyard sites to produce the vibrant and intense grape characters found only in the Okanagan Valley. The potential of the resulting fruit, using experience and careful stewardship throughout the vinification process, is maintained and enhanced to create exceptional wines that truly reflect the grape variety and vineyard site. We welcome you to our unique wine shop overlooking Lake Okanagan. This spectacular view was featured on the $100 banknote from 1954 to 1975. From April through October, we are open daily, 10am to 5pm for tastings and purchases. Join us on our patio for a seated tasting experience or sample at the tasting bar. Seating is limited so reservations are encouraged. We do require advance reservations for groups of 8 or more.

They were sold out of most of their usual wines as it is so late in the year. We tried the 3 fortified wines and really liked them all. Our host was super friendly and knowledgeable. Our favorites of the 3 fortified wines we tried were the N V Liqueur Muscat and the Vintage Port. We will keep ordering both and will have it on our must stop each time we visit the area.
