Family of 7 stayed here in August 2020. Very clean when we arrived. Great quality restoraiton and it is an enchanting experience to be in a house with such history. All the rooms were decorated to a very authentic, high quality standard. The location is great - just outside the property there are some steps down to a beach (lesser known than the main sands and consequently not very busy at all). Sea views from 3 out of 4 bedrooms. The garden is huge and probably could do with some TLC as it was not in a good condition, but deck chairs were provided so that we could sit outside (a garden table/picnic table is the only thing we thought should have been added). House sleeps 8 and there are 4 toilets, 2 showers and 1 bath in total. 2 toilets and a shower room downstairs, 1 bathroom on the 1st floor with the bedrooms and 1 bathroom half way to the tower with a bath and a toilet. The bathrooms (especially the downstairs one) were the only rooms in the house we feel that did not have Pugin's charm in them (maybe could have featured some replicas of his tiles?). Also 2 out of 4 toilets are slighlty novelty (they are wooden benches with holes in them like in the olden days). This was funny but they smelt a bit funny and were not that comfortable to sit on. The beds were very comfortable although it was very hot with the heavy duvet they provided in summer. The kitchen, living room, breakfast room and dining room were all functional and practical. The dining room was probably the most impressive room and it was amaxing eating an evening meal here. The chapel was also very curious although we didn't spend much time here

Visited Houdini’s in the evening at the beginning of December. Broadstairs was fairly quiet when we went for a meal and had a look at a few other bars along the high street. But Houdini’s had a fair few people in and a great atmosphere. So we’re pleased that we decided to spend our evening here. There was a fantastic magician walking around doing card tricks and he then later done a show. Through the night there was a compere doing competitions and telling jokes. The bar staff was also very friendly and told us the history about the cranberry gin we were drinking. Me and my partner like to look for niche and different bars. And we will definitely be returning to Houdini’s.

This was our first ever escape room experience (me and my 10 year old son) so we chose to do "Pirates of the Polaris" Our captain was absolutely fantastic, welcoming, professional and incredibly charming, and we had great fun solving the really intricate puzzles and rooms. Very immersive and I would recommend to anyone. Hoping to come back and do "The Pit" on our next adventure.

We did the Detention room today (sadly it is closing soon) for our second visit to Ctrl Alt Esc and as with our last visit, found it to be a fantastic room. I like how their rooms here are 90 minutes long which means that there are lots of puzzles to solve. The detention room was a great setting and everything worked perfectly in the room. There was a good range of puzzles and the soundtrack to the room was particularly amusing, without being too loud or intrusive. Cat was a brilliant GM, full of passion and excitement, who was reserved with her hint giving, allowing us time to work things out for ourselves rather than jumping in with clues immediately. It was also great to talk to her afterwards and share escape room experiences - it does make such a difference when the GM has done lots of rooms themselves and knows what makes a good GM. Overall, for a small independent family run business, they offer some fantastic rooms that provide lots of entertainment.

The Shell Grotto

Pre-booking essential. The Shell Grotto is one of the world’s most mysterious places: a series of underground rooms and passageways covered by 2000sqft of exquisite mosaic created with 4.6 million shells. Discovered in 1835, nobody knows who created it, when, or why. “The grotto is simultaneously haunting and homely. It could be a lost pagan shrine or have ‘A Present From Margate’ picked out in the shells - it wouldn’t matter. It’s still magical, mysterious and (once it’s in your head) impossible to forget.” Far From the Sodding Crowd: More Uncommonly British Days Out, Penguin Books.

Lovely place to go for a walk in the summer, easy to park for a small fee, good paths with views out to sea, lots of birds out there too. Got to see and walk past the ponies grazing today.
