A wonderful hotel

Reviewed By anniel330

Beautiful rooms, very clean, fantastic location, friendly staff, delicious breakfast with FABULOUS kippers on offer. My only regret is that I did not request a room above the ground floor, because it felt vulnerable to sleep there with the window open, and we missed out, therefore, on sleeping to the soothing and fresh breezes of the sea...

Disappointing stay - practical needs of a hotel are missing

Reviewed By Scenic785766

My husband and I visited Margate for a week day break. We were attending a concert at the Winter Gardens. The location is excellent for there, literally across the road. However, the room we stayed in (no 4) had no curtains - just flimsy cheap blinds. From 5am onwards we were woken with the light streaming in. So disappointing. The primary purpose of a hotel is to sleep. The rooms are very clean but this isn’t a venue worthy of the price tag. The online photos are misleading. We had a ‘king bed’ which was 2 singles without even a mattress topper to stop you falling down the middle. The bathrooms are equipped with tiny sinks and there’s nowhere to put your luggage. Badly designed. It’s fine, but lacks the quality and attention to detail you’d expect for the price. Much better places to stay in the local area so give this one a miss. Also- they don’t give guests a key to the front door so you have to wait to get in every time. Really irritating.

Completely delightful hotel!

Reviewed By 604birgitm

The hotel is beautifully decorated, with comfortable beds and super soft towels. Breakfast was excellent, as was the tarragon chicken which one of our party had at supper and adored. Drinks before supper were in the sitting room with its fabulous sea view. Nothing is too much trouble for the hosts. It is also unique due to the collection of Harry Potter memorabilia hanging in the hallway. The Bedlington terriers are also a joy!

No hot water in the ladies’ loos

The Walpole Bay offers decadent charm, fabulous cream teas and friendly service, but the hot water taps in the ladies loo haven’t been working for months and it’s just not acceptable - it’s so unhygienic - especially as Covid19 lurks around every corner.
