The Big Cat Sanctuary

The Big Cat Sanctuary The Big Cat Sanctuary is a conservation charity, home to over 50 big and small cats across 16 different species. We are proud to have the most diverse collection in the UK, from the largest, to the smallest, to the most endangered in the world, hidden away in the Kent countryside. We are a centre of excellence whose primary objective is the breeding of some of the most endangered species on the planet as well as offering sanctuary to retired and homeless cats. The breeding centre is proud to be part of the EEP (European Endangered Species Breeding Programme). This is a body that regulates the captive breeding of endangered cats by making recommendations for breeding to produce a strong, healthy and diverse gene-pool within the captive population to ultimately be reintroduced safely into their natural habitat to mix with their counterparts in the wild. Breeding success so far includes the Amur leopard programme which is the world’s most endangered big cat, estimated between 70-80 remaining in the wild globally, also to the Sumatran tigers, Amur tigers and Pallas cats. Big Cat Sanctuary operates by way of personal big cat experiences including big cat tours, individual and group photography days, overnight big cat safari nights and adoptions. All of which need to be pre-booked in advance of a visit. The centre takes pride in delivering fully immersive, personal and amazing experiences that will leave any big cat lover with memories to treasure forever.

Fan Bay Deep Shelter

The tunnels were constructed in 1940/41 as accommodation for the gun battery above. Today this network of abandoned tunnels is virtually all that remains of these long forgotten defences. You can take a journey into the past on a guided tour of the tunnels with one of our expert volunteers, peering into the darkness and back in time into different world, hidden within the cliffs.

Went to fan bay shelter yesterday.. lovely walk along the cliff top, with stunning views. The guide was informative and use humour and great passion when explaining the shelters use and conditions of living in it as a solider. My only criticism ( and it more a personal preference) as it's only been open 3 seasons, it could be developed more. I'd have like to see a part of the shelter set up like it was then with bunks and soldiers items to help me feel what it would be like to live down there... maybe a recording of noise that could add to the ambience. I'm NTS card holder but thought £10 was reasonable. To top my visit coming out of the shelter a spit fire was over head.... Ace!!!

Had an absolutely brilliant time here for my mum's 50th birthday present. Ryan and the team were fantastic. Made us feel welcome from the second we got there. The birds are so well looked after and loved. My mum handled many more birds than she was expecting and thoroughly enjoyed the whole day. She was a little nervous around some of the biygger birds of prey but was put at ease straight away. We were given facts and information about each day, but in a way that it didn't feel like a lecture. I was just a spectator, but even I had a brilliant time and the lunch was delicious (and massive!). Would thoroughly recommend and have started hinting for my own birthday now!

We visited Willows yesterday for an introduction to falconry experience (a belated birthday present for husband and son) and had an absolutely brilliant time, Our falconry guide, Josh was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the birds. No question was too silly to ask and Josh and Matt were able to answer them all with ease and knowledge. It was great to see the different characters of the birds although the caracara was definitely my favourite. It was such a great experience, I can't recommend it enough. A hidden gem in beautiful Kent countryside!!

This was our first ever escape room experience (me and my 10 year old son) so we chose to do "Pirates of the Polaris" Our captain was absolutely fantastic, welcoming, professional and incredibly charming, and we had great fun solving the really intricate puzzles and rooms. Very immersive and I would recommend to anyone. Hoping to come back and do "The Pit" on our next adventure.
