Very good

Reviewed By KButlerHill

This would have had five stars except for the lukewarm and mediocre breakfast. The room was a lovely and well appointed townhouse with ensuite bathroom. The bed was very comfortable, the room was very quite despite its position overlooking what can be a very noisy Pantiles area and we had an excellent night’s sleep. We will definitely be back!

Don't expect 4* service

Reviewed By missfussie1

The hotel is absolutely stunning both inside and out however it was majorly let down by the service and facilities. We booked to stay for 3 nights and being a platinum member of best western your entitled to free upgrade, however being the weekend of the Jubille I didn't expect we'd get this. I did however expect the staff to plan where their guests would stay, having my own experience of working in a best western myself. We stayed for 3 nights with a dog and so staff should have gone through their reservations and placed guests with longer stays in comfortable rooms. This was not the case. We got one of the smallest rooms in the hotel and having a dog (large staff) it was very cramped with all our luggage as well (wedding). I requested that we could have a larger room and said I'm not expecting an upgrade, just one that is more comfortable. The staff member confirmed that we had one of the smallest rooms in the hotel and due to them being fully booked they would be able to move us the following day and if we wanted, could upgrade us for our final night. Great! However the following day came, I rang reception and explained the situation. The lady said that we could move but it would be into the exact same size room... pointless. The day after that staff made no effort to offer us the upgrade that they promised. Staying on the topic of 'small'... the bathtub was fit for a toddler. I'm 5'6 and I couldn't lay comfortably in the bath, my partner is 6'2 so had absolutely no hope, luckily we had a shower.... which gave you whatever temperature it saw fit. The website states 24 hour room service, this is a lie. After the wedding, about midnight we asked for a drink and the gentlemen simply said no, no apology, just no. Before checking in, I rang the hotel and asked if they had a pool or gym to which they said no sorry. When I checked the website on our last night I saw that they offer a discount at the local gym... the staff clearly didn't think it was a good idea to pass this on to their guests. I asked for a drink at reception as there was a sign on the bar telling me to do so and we had our dog with us (not allowed in the restaurant). It was just a juice and water as it was the middle of the day and the lady said I don't think we can serve you at the bar. I explained I had the dog with me and was just a quick drink before we head back out. She asked her supervisor who also stated they couldn't serve me at the bar as the manager wasn't around. Then went on to say she would radio on for someone... I said not to bother and got my partner to go downstairs to the restaurant. Whatever happened to simply saying yes, we will get some one for you. The guest doesn't want to know all the aggro of getting a drink... I simply wanted some water! On check out the lady asked me how the stay was and I said we'll were pretty disappointed to be honest... she said nothing.... I then followed it up with its a lovely hotel though.... she still said nothing. Why ask how someone's stay was if you have no intention of even apologising!? I didn't expect that she would do or offer anything in return for our bad stay but an apology ... yes I think I'm entitled to that! To end on a positive... sort of... note - we requested room service for our breakfast instead of going to the restaurant which we booked in. The lady very kindly managed to sort this for us and said there may be some items unavailable due to breakfast finishing soon (it was 9.30am). Luckily they had everything expected for a full English so was greatful they could accommodate. The sausage however was not 4* standard but the rest was pretty good.

Perfect visit with exceptional staff service

We stayed here for one night, booking 3 rooms to celebrate my dads 70th! The hotel was perfect, comfortable clean rooms, lovely views and a huge grass area for children to run around. What made this hotel stand out from the rest was the staff service. From a friendly welcoming lady on reception to the lady who I believe was the owner/ manager! The waiters/ waitresses were fantastic, nothing was too much bother and all very natural. Food was beautiful in the evening and breakfast was perfect! We had a small query with one of the rooms, the staff resolved it in a way which was over and above our expectations. A perfect night away! We will definitely go back Thank you

Unhygienic swimming pool, tired decor in rooms and noisy hotel

Reviewed By vickihodges

Booked this hotel for a mother and daughter get away. My daughter really wanted a hotel with a pool. On check in the room was basic and had signs of wear and tear. It clearly hasn't been cleaned properly as we found a foam ear plug next to the bed and a wine bottle top on floor. After check in we left room to head to the pool as my daughter was excited for a swim. The pool was the reason for booking the hotel. On entering the pool it was full of people and no room to swim so we put goggles on and decided to play instead but when under water we couldn't even see each other through the murky water!! We immediately got out and complained about the hygiene risk of such a filthy pool. We ate out for dinner and breakfast so can't comment on the food but the least time in the room the better for us. It was hardly a place to relax in as the noise levels from hotel and guests was loud. I got no sleep due to the guests next door enjoying their lustful night so loudly it sounded like a porno was on in our room. My daughter had to wear my airpods and listen to music so not to have to be subjected to that noise. The walls are super thin and you can hear every conversation so no privacy for anyone. The guests staying in the room opposite us had a wedding so they were up early at 7:30am opening and slamming doors letting the beautician/ hair dresser/ family in and shouting. I know the hotel have no control over the noise of guests but they do have control over noise of staff, which leads me onto the next point. The noise of drilling and sawing started early on the Friday morning!! We should have been warned if maintenance was planned. I have a video of this but seems you can't unload videos on here. Overall a bad stay and couldn't wait to leave. Hotel staff offered us a free stay due to all the issues but I would never return to this hotel even though it would be free of charge.

Hythe Imperial is a hotel that I would recommend to anyone. The setting is perfect right by the sea and the gardens are stunning, everything about this hotel is impeccable, the food the rooms and the service. We got married at the weekend in this hotel and the management team from Georgia, Russ the Toastmaster, David the manager from the restaurant and Hobbie the trainee and so many more staff that waited on us. The rooms are so clean and the beds are so comfortable. The food is so tasty and the portions are big. This hotel will always be special to us. It was a magical place to get married as we chose the Gazebo and the wedding breakfast was in the ballroom that lead on to the sun deck.. lost for words magical. Thank you so much Hythe Imperial for giving us such great memories.

Sorry it’s not a hotel

Reviewed By Maxtedbike

Arrived and parked up, spent 10 min trying to find the owner for my room key in the end I phoned his mobile, sorry the bell doesn’t work was his response. A key to room 3 was handed over with a carton of longlife milk. I am a veteran so I have put my head down in some right places, but this took the biscuit. No WC, a sink that was going to fall off the wall, a bed, a bin, some shower gel, a bit of toilet paper. The sheets on the bed were discussing, the smell, I walked out. Richard phoned later and asked why l had left…never again.

Nice hotel right in the heart of Canterbury

We have visited a number of times now. Friendly and helpful staff. Good breakfast menu, cooked to order although lighter breakfasts are still available. Parts of the hotel including rooms had been renovated since we last stayed a few years ago. Competitively priced food and drink. One tiny gripe is having to pay for parking but to be fair we knew that when we booked, maybe this is the way most hotels in built up areas are heading.

Very nice hotel in Chartham great access to Canterbury and indeed rest of Kent. Well kept grounds and lovely garden areas to sit out in. Can recommend room 8 or 15 as our party used both. Staff very friendly and efficient . Hotel was very clean and tidy both rooms and public areas appeared well maintained. Very well priced. Food in restaurant was good and reasonable cost arrived pipping hot and tasted very nice. Breakfast was standard buffet for cereals - juice toast etc and hot options available to order ( portions not huge but very nice - full cooked was bacon 1 sausage 1 hash brown tomato an egg and portion of beans plus a flat mushroom I opted for no mushroom personal thing and would have liked a second sausage black pudding and another egg but then I like a big breakfast light lunch - so probably fine for most others). Plenty of free on site parking.

A wonderful place to stay with great views and access to the cathedral. Very clean, and the area is beautiful. Parking on the grounds was great and convenient, but access to the parking is not marked and was a bit hard to find. Room was nice, and comfortable. Breakfast was outstanding, and in a pleasant room. Nice location to walk around Canterbury and plenty of dinner spots nearby. Very friendly staff.
