Underground City

Montreal's answer to the region's harsh winters, Underground City refers to the extensive web of train stations, restaurants, department stores and hotels all connected underground.

During our stay at Le Westin Montreal, we extensively used the famous Montreal’s Underground City (RÉSO) to go to Complexe Guy-Favreau, Place des Arts, Musee d’Art Contemporain de Montréal, various shops/malls and eateries in the Underground City, and China Town restaurants. We also used Underground City to enter/exit Montreal’s efficient metro networks to visit such attractions as Cathedral of Marie-Reine-du-Monde, Saint Joseph's Oratory of Mount Royal, Monument to Sir George-Etienne Cartier, etc. The climate controlled Underground City with over 1,600 shops/services had many concourses and tunnels on multiple stories with good lighting, making the world’s largest underground complex excellent choice for Montreal residents and visitors alike to move around especially during adverse weather conditions. Since many shopping malls, apartment buildings, hotels, banks, offices, museums, universities were connected with this underground network, this Underground City network was especially efficient and useful arrangement. Although we had read about this underground network before actually entering it, we were amazed at its enormous magnitude, colorfulness and efficiency. Montreal’s Underground City is a must visit site. As matter of fact, it is a virtually a must use site while in Montreal.
