Our Dutch friends thought we'd enjoy this special venue whilst visiting from the UK and it really is a treat from start to finish. Arriving on foot (you can arrange collection by golf buggy I believe), its almost like stumbling on something no-one else knows about in the middle of the woods! Starting with bubbles and nibbles outside we were ushered into the main restaurant (unfortunately all outside tables were taken) and were the only ones inside for most of the evening. The service and food are a real treat and portions are generous. It really is somewhere very special and I'd love to go again one day but be prepared to pay for the experience! The menu is limited and is not in English - from memory it was 4 or 5 courses with two main choices of menu but you can also chop and change a little. They are also extremely helpful with dietary issues as our friends son has serious allergies and it's the first place he's ever been served a truly special meal just for him!The winter snug and fire looks wonderful too.The only slight negative, and I have to agree with a previous reviewer, is that two of us had to sit in a window seat and had back problems by the end of the meal - not me luckily - but it is an issue in this calibre of restaurant. Also annoying when the rest of the restaurant was unoccupied. What a wonderful message, thank you very much! We're very glad that you've enjoyed the location and the food. And we understand your experience about the seating. Hope to see you next time!

De Leest

Has two Michelin stars

Reviewed By corky K

De Leest is the other of two 3 Michelin star rated restaurants in the Netherlands. We had lunch here.Reception was casual not too formal and welcoming.Ambiance of restaurant is warm and pleasant, comfortable seats and temperature. We had 6 absolutely surprising spoon size appetizers before our other courses.I will not bother you with all the food we ate but if you like asian styled flavors in a contemporary version, De Leest is your restauarant. Many citrus flavors, lime, lemon, verbena, bergamot and thai/ indian spiced flavors.Smooth fresh creamy flavors, many fish items on the menu. The cuisson is just perfect for all dishes. The plates are being composed like small art work, which one may expect in a 3 star restaurant.Lovely matching combinations, no dare devils...The coffee or tea is being served with a numerous number of delicious, beautiful presented and tasty sweet bites.the wine list is just gorgeous and very affortable. If i had to name some draw backs of De leest it will be the use of many same tasting cirtus style flavors and the lack of seasonal game or dark meats on their menu.To conclude, De Leest is less pretentious and welcoming than the other 3 star restaurant in The Netherlands and its easier to get a reservation here.Their wonderful food is absolutely fantastic, but the goodie is that one pays way less here than at other same level restaurants.

Located near the city center, this restaurant is a no nonsense place to eat. The interior is not really thrilling, but the food is just totally delicious. Huge portions of everything you order. The spare ribs are heaven, as is the salmon and huge American T bone steak. Friendly waiters and waitresses make everything run smooth. So if you are a real carnivor with a big appetite, this is the place to go. Make your reservation ahrad, as it may be crowdy especially during the weekend.

To finish our midweek short trip in Gelderland we chose for De Basiliek because they has a nice offer with Heerlijk.nl.A 5 dish lunch which was enjoyed with an excellent Viognier. All dishes were something special. They first appearance is beautiful. The first taste is nothing special, but when you combine its ingredients it appears that the chef knows what he is doing. Complex taste and beautiful presentation is a trademark for this restaurant. Only point of criticism is that the portions are too small......but do not let you be withhold to go over here, because they may be small but are certainly outstanding at a very reasonable price .... as long as it lasts. Little wonder this great restaurant has such strong reviews as it delivers on pretty well every level.Despite having to recently hire a new chef the standard of food, presentation and overall quality is excellent. The tuna entrée with mekame seaweed, squid ink mayonnaise and avocado cream with langoustine foam was really excellent. For mains we picked filet of bream and the veal cooked two ways - slow and seared, delicious. My mouth watering dessert was raspberries, with raspberry ice cream, raspberry caviar and merangue......perfect.While the menu is entirely in Dutch the staff painstakingly took us through each dish to ensure we understood them before making our choices. The décor and ambience are tasteful, charming and make for a very relaxed evening. The wine list is reasonable and has a good selection of both red and white wines.Recommend it highly and would return anytime.

Although it is a fancy place, it still has a very familiar atmosphere which makes people feel at home. Loved the food and the fact that although we spend 2 hrs there, the plates were constantly coming, with nice explanations and also the wine pairing. A place to get conversations flowing and time to enjoy the flavoured food. Waiters were fantastic, english spoken fluently. Loved it!
