We will be closed on Thursday 9th, Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th March. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Mariners (Formally Lathwells) is a Grade Two listed historic building in one of Bideford's oldest streets. The building dates back to the 1700's. History tells us it has been a Mariners house, an Inn, a sowing school, a private house and now a restaurant. Mariners is small, intimate and relaxing. The table is yours for the evening. Our food is cooked from fresh to order. We pride ourselves on seasonal fish and meat from the Bay Area as far as possible. Our menu changes often with specials featuring on a daily basis. We look forward to meeting you. Booking is strongly advisable to secure a table. We are open Wednesday - Saturday from 6.30pm. Last food orders are taken at 8.30pm.
A superb evening from the friendly welcome, attentive but unobtrusive service, relaxed cosy atmosphere and of course the superb food, .my husband started with Lobster Bisque which was delicious, he then ordered Chicken Casserole with dumplings and I choose the Roast Partridge, served with a separate dish of roasted vegetables. Needless to say after having a very filling starter my husband passed on a sweet, but I indulged in Cheesecake with berries and ice cream, all washed down with a large glass of wine each and a pot of fresh coffee.
Mariners is the place to go for freshly cooked delicious food and not at an inflated price.

Winners of the Best Cafe 2012/13 from the North Devon Food Awards. Our Cream Tea has been hailed as one of the best in Devon. The Tea Room has a lovely retro style with posters, images and music from the fifties and a warm, friendly and relaxed atmosphere.
Family visit with nine in the party. We opted for an outside seat. Service was very quick, efficient and friendly. Good varied menu with an excellent selection of home made cakes although the scones have to be the best and largest in the South West. The cream tea is a must do and if you have room afterwards a huge slice a cake. A definite on places to eat in the area, miss out and your taste buds will hate you forever.

Six of us visited on a busy Friday night to celebrate our niece’s 18th Birthday. Very friendly and cosy bar to enjoy a drink before our meal in one of the relaxed but nicely decorated restaurant rooms.
Carlos, our waiter, was excellent. Immediately engaged well with all members of the family. Very good knowledge of the food and wine menu. Invested time to chat with us and make recommendations on meal choices.
Food was superb and portions very generous. Without doubt one of our best meals/nights out. We will be returning soon.

Called into the Beaver tonight and we all had a really nice Sunday dinner.
It was very well cooked and with plenty of vegetables. Unfortunately we had no room for
Desert which also looked lovely. Will surly return later in the week.
Attentive friendly staff, comfy dining area overlooking the water.

Consistently delicious. Cosy & friendly independent cafe & bar, locally renowned for great tasting home-made food at reasonable prices. Open for breakfast, lunch, coffee & home-baked cakes, afternoon teas, evenings, private parties. A good range of traditional and contemporary dishes and a variety of tempting vegetarian options; sandwiches, jackets, soups, mezze & pizza etc. Fully licenced - great cocktails and sensibly selected wine list. Very child-friendly. Free wifi.
We arrived as a group of 10 and were totally looked after by friendly staff - nothing too much trouble. Delicious tapas, reasonably priced and plenty of it!! Great atmosphere and location. Would definitely return ?

Located in the centre of the village and next to The Co-op, Rock Pool Cafe is open 9 to 5 every day. We serve 'build your own' breakfasts that start at £4.25, Lunches and main meals up to £8, And Cream Teas. Come and give us a try
I was with a couple of friends, one of whom was desperate for a drink, we spotted the café, it was quite busy and we sat at a table that was being cleared. We ordered three cream teas, the pots of tea arrived quite quickly and a little while later the scones with a generous portion of jam and cream. The scones were lovely, no qualms about returning here.

Best Chip shop in Bideford
Our recent trip to this chippy left me a bit frustrated... the line was long..and very slow..staff were quite unhappy.
The food (when we eventually got it) was incredibly small portioned and they got the order wrong.
When I questioned it (politely) I got a very grumpy grab or food then.. I waited again... then a kind of slam down of new food ..that I did originally order.
I will not be returning unfortunately.
