Top 10 restaurants in Rodrigues Island, Mauritius

July 25, 2017 Leonarda Pillsbury

The landscape of Rodrigues Island is a dramatic combination of mountains, valleys, lagoons and cave systems. A guided exploration of the Caverne Patate reveals playful rock formations that were created by tectonic plate movement. Above ground, the François Leguat Giant Tortoise and Cave Reserve will acquaint you with the island’s rarest plants and most laid-back residents. Hike the central Mont Limon for majestic panoramic views or dive among intricate coral reefs. Get up early to visit Port Mathurin on market day, when the otherwise sleepy village springs to life.

Mazavaroo

Although we didn't reserve (only necessary for dinner as they don't have the full staff in the evening), we were warmly welcomed.
My wife is vegetarian and had a meal especially prepared for her without fuss.
Food is fresh and delicious. They offer a choice of freshly grilled fish - had the marlin - which are served with the local side dishes. Portion size is excellent.
The starters and Deserts are equally as good. Service is attentive and polite.
Highly recommended. Would definitely go back.

Local taxi driver advised me to check this place out.Wished I had foregone the pleasure. One stern looking harassed female person informed me that there was no fish or sausages left(surely this could not have been the charming Solange of other reviews)Only 11.30am,but got the distinct impression no further customers were required.Pity she did not have the decency to be up front about it.Highly recommended if you like a frosty reception in a hot climate!

La Case Mama

Reviewed By GinnieMauritius - Mauritius

La Case Mama is a little reataurant selling local mauritian food such as naan with vegetarian or non-veg curries, chinese food and typical rodrigues food such as" riz/mais" which mean rice mixed with corn and curry. It is situated just at the beginning of the bus station of Port Mathurin. The place is very clean and the decoration is very simple, the cook is the owner of this little restaurant and the son works as the cashier. I've tried the "riz/mais" with a fish curry and it was delicious and very cheap.

Chez Ram

Reviewed By Tushan B - Loughborough, United Kingdom

People might think that food at chez ram is not expensive for Rodrigues. However, the konokono is quite expensive and similarly priced to posh restaurant of the island. Moreover the salad is full of egg and less konokono. Food portions are inconsistent. For example I ordered 2 portions crab, the first dish was much more plentiful than the second. The owner also isn't pleasant neither, he was trying to clear plates with food still on. Overall, this place is simply overrated and Rodrigues has much better restaurants ; similarly priced, with better service and better atmosphere. Therefore, I suggest looking elsewhere.

Ti Piment Rouge

Restaurant is located in the center of the city. Quality of food is excellent. A large variety of typical food is available. Good for lunch and dinner. Sea foods are well prepared. I am not surprised why it is always busy.
